About this deal

The supporting characters were very well-drawn and pique my interest into what is in store for the next book. Without being a cliff-hanger, you know there is much more in store for Kaely Quinn. Palmer MD. Keep Your Brain Alive: 83 Neurobic Exercises to Help Prevent Memory Loss and Increase Mental Fitness, by Lawrence Katz and Manning Rubin. Activities, Adaptation & Aging. 2016;40(1):80-80. doi:10.1080/01924788.2016.1144015. I loved the quirky FBI Behavioral Analyst Kaely Quinn. She is interesting and very good at what she does. Once you get to know more about her, her odd behavior just becomes endearing. She has been called out by a new serial killer. It is personal. He is after her. He writes a poem with clues that let her know she is the last on his list to die. Luna lives in a world where the majority of the population has an implant allowing them access to a virtual world. Everyone learns, lives, plays and interacts in this virtual world. Luna is one of few “Refusers”, who choose not to have an implant and do things the old way, like learn in a physical classroom with physical teachers. When she does enter the virtual world, we discover that she has a dangerous secret: she is aware of both the virtual world and the real world around her.

Kaely Quinn is a very complex and interesting character. Her quirks and her job make her so unique. I'm not sure I've read a book with a character that was even similar to Kaely. Noah Hunter was also interesting, but I feel like Mehl only scratched the surface of his character in this book, and I hope she'll delve deeper in the upcoming books.

The ending to this had lots of twists, and it was these that definitely bumped up the rating on this one for me. The slowness of this story made it a three, but the twists made it a 4. The faith thread is the “bones” of the story because Kaely truly relies on God through all the difficulties. Yet Ms. Mehl portrays her as a flawed person who is functioning well at her job as an FBI profiler.

I wonder if I was fooled by the gorgeous cover, or the premise of Mind Games. As with so many books these days, a synopsis can be either exactly what you think it is, or turn out to be something entirely different. It's sad to say that Teri Terry's novel falls into the last category.

This is similar in conversations. But it really is childish over-explaining everything in English as if it were another unknown context language. Human beings just do NOT speak that way. The plot was gripping and super intriguing, yet sometimes I kept getting pulled out of the story. Mostly this had to do with the fact that I’m still not clear on what this whole virtual thing is. Like, what is it that goes into these games that allows someone to die in real life? Is it your consciousness? I’m still not clear on that and it kept pissing me off. I couldn’t figure out the connection between the body and this virtual reality, and it made it hard for me to enjoy and even understand certain bits of the storyline. That being said, what I could understand was fabulous. After the first half things started to go downhill fast. The plot didn't make much sense anymore and the pace of the book became so fast that it wasn't even that easy to follow the story.
