Seven key areas have been identified to drive nature recovery in the region. The hope is that this work to drive nature recovery, can in turn deliver climate resilience and support a sustainable economy for the North of England. Thanks to our paid partnership with Visit Florida and Visit Natural North Florida we were able to visit and fall in love with the wonder of this area. The reserve is at its peak between mid June to mid July. There is an abundance of many species of orchids, Ragged robin and eyebright. Species typical of northern hay meadow such as wood crane’s-bill and melancholy thistle can also be seen. However, an earlier visit in May is needed to see species such as early purple orchid and globeflower. Late flowering plants such as devil’s-bit scabious and grass-of-Parnassus can be seen in late August. Directions Rooms have a screened in porch and grassed sections outside filled with giant jenga, corn hole, swinging chairs and fire pits.

Its river offers nature lovers the grandeur of unspoiled old Florida and the beauty of outdoor adventure. The Suwanee River begins in the Okeefenokee Swamp in southeastern Georgia and travels 246 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. The NNR is almost all that remains of a once large valley wetland complex which has been drained and used for agricultural purposes. The flora communities are maintained by grazing with a small number of Highland cattle in late summer and autumn. Additionally, scrub is selectively controlled by cutting and removal. Directions At Duddon Mosses you’ll discover one of England’s few remaining peatland habitats, with striking views over the Lakeland Fells and the sea. This quiet haven, hidden at the top of the Duddon Estuary, provides a welcome sanctuary for plants, animals and human visitors alike.The valley sides in Ennerdale have Atlantic oakwood, rich with bryophytes and lichens, and also some mixed woodland with stands of conifer. These woodlands are an important refuge for populations of red squirrel. Upper slopes above the woodlands are a mixture of scrubby woodland, dry heath and blanket bog. As altitude increases, these habitats are replaced by montane heath, dominated by mosses and lichens and occasionally there are stands of mountain tall-herb vegetation with nationally rare shrubby cinquefoil and alpine saw wort. Mrs Smith’s Cottage, our museum in Navenby, is a bastion of nature promotion. The venue hosts sustainable planting for insects and pollinators, alongside bug hotels, and a focus on biodiversity and environmental issues through its education programme. Blue Green Corridor Project The reserve lies just off the A595, 1.5km north of Drigg and 3km south east of Seascale. There is no local parking, so it is recommended that you park in local villages and continue on foot to the reserve. Volunteers and activities If you have to work on an area that you have just adhered down, use a piece of ply board to cover the area. That will ensure you weight is spread evenly and should prevent movement on the fitted boards North Walney is one of the best coastal nature reserves in the country, retaining a real wilderness feel in a largely industrial local landscape. With stunning mountain and sea views, this is the place to stretch your legs and ‘get away from it all’ - and there’s always the chance you might spot some remarkable wildlife.

We were so disappointed we could not take the glass bottom boat to tour the springs, recommended as one of the top things to do in north Florida. We could only glimpse at its beauty in the distance through the boats lined up on the jetty. It was closed due to COVID. Sphagnum (bog) mosses dominate the uncut areas of the Moss, with purple moorgrass in the cut areas and fen and carr woodland at the edges. South Solway Mosses NNR is in North Cumbria, centred around Kirkbride which is 12 miles west of Carlisle on the Solway coast or 6 miles north of Wigton on the A596.

Rare arctic-alpine plants, remnants of the ice-age, can be found here. During the breeding season (April to June) many species of wading birds such as lapwing, curlew, redshank and golden plover can be seen displaying. Explore using the network of well signed public footpaths and find three dramatic waterfalls , Cauldron Snout, High Force and Low Force. The cypress mangroves rising out of the swamp gives it an eerie and ethereal feel and it will feel familiar to you.
