About this deal

Based on our experience, a Theragun cannot entirely replace a professional massage, but it serves as a fantastic complement to traditional massage therapies. Percussion therapy devices like Theraguns provide effective, at-home, do-it-yourself massage therapy, which can help with muscle recovery and relaxation. However, they should be used in addition to, not as a substitute for, professional massages performed by trained PTs. To ensure safe and effective use of Theraguns, it’s crucial to understand the device and how to use it. Ekrin devices (B37 and B37S), and the Achedaway Pro, a powerful massage gun with similarly powerful features – 16mm amplitude and powerful motor – are good examples of devices that are hushed down (especially the Achedaway). The Pro has a 16mm amplitude, and, as in other full-sized Theraguns, this is still the longest amplitude you can get. The Pro’s 16mm amplitude is confirmed. Because of individual state regulations, some of the above limitations and exclusions may not apply to you.

Previously, you needed the app for guidance on which handle part to hold and which parts of the body you’re supposed to use the Theragun Pro on during a routine. But on the Theragun Pro (Gen 5) there are four presets with visual guidance directly on your device. The presets are Warm-Up, Relax, Recover and Sleep. We pitted the fourth-generation Pro against the new Pro. We actually did notice a difference. The Pro G5 is noticeably quieter than before. Why? In September 2022, Theragun unveiled their new flagship device, Theragun Pro G5, and announced the new, smaller Mini. All 3 large massage guns have a lot in common. However, interestingly enough, the Mini doesn’t fall too far from the tree.

We found the Pro a little more juiced up – enough to last for 2-2.5 hours on a single charge. It’s the only Theragun with removable batteries. That said, the new Theragun Pro comes with only one battery included (previous model had two). Theragun PRO G4 comes with two interchangeable batteries. The new Pro G5 has only one. The adjustable arm will probably be a huge plus to chiropractors and therapists who may need more options as they massage different people.

Theragun Prime, Elite and Pro are all full-sized massage guns. The Mini on the other hand is much smaller. It serves a different niche altogether. It was never part of what Theragun has been doing for a long time until only recently. Theragun Elite on the other hand felt somewhat more reliable in our hands. With 40lbs. of stall force, it’s not the best, but the long stroke length is finally justified. While not the best, the ample stroke length finally feels justified. An additional 10 lbs. of pressure can make a significant difference in the results when compared to the Theragun Prime. In our Elite review we still decry the Elite’s stall force given its hefty price. However, it’s still slightly harder to stall compared to the Prime. The first Mini had (and still has) only one attachment – ball. The newly released 2022 Mini has two more included. We noticed that the battery’s shape has changed from the 4th Gen model, which appears to prevent users from using the 4th Gen batteries in the new model, and vice versa. We also found that some alternatives, while priced at half the cost, were noticeably quieter and still offer top performance features – the Achedaway Proor Ekrin B37sbeing one of our favorite ones. We were excited to try the new Micropoint attachment, but we found ourselves missing the tougher Cone head that isn’t included anymore. Stall force is the amount of pressure you can apply to the head of the massage gun before the motor stalls, or how powerful a massage gun is. A higher maximum no-stall force means you can apply more pressure before the motor shuts off.

Keep in mind that nothing in this review should be considered medical advice, and while I live with someone who is a qualified massage therapist, the following is simply my experience with the gun and how much I enjoyed it as someone who has no significant injuries – but quite a few persistent muscle aches. Theragun Becomes Therabody In our evaluation, the Pro still stands out as a compelling choice for users who demand top-tier power and unique features like the Therabody app. For a light massage that won’t go deep into bigger muscles, Prime should be good enough. However, for deep tissue massage and especially when you want to work on your quads and hamstring, the extra 10lbs. stall force on the Elite can make a huge difference. Also, the long amplitude is justified on Elite. However, it seems they have been well aware of the criticism and decided to improve things on the noise front. A prominent examples of this is the recent introduction of their 5 th gen Pro model. Our tests confirmed the marked improvements in noise reduction in this latest device. The Achedaway Pro is a cheaper alternative that can still boast similar features as the Theragun Pro. Some of the new features (e.g. pre-set workouts) are probably aimed at less experienced users, which is slightly contradictory, considering the Theragun Pro is the pro's choice, who most likely don't need them. The two new attachments are a bit hit-and-miss, with the thumb being an excellent addition and the Micro-Point – well – pointless. Why We Like It: The biometric sensor works with pre-loaded sleep routines to help your brain and body wind down at night.

Included with the Pro is a separate, smaller travel bag for attachments. This is a good add-on in theory, but it feels unnecessary — you can house the Elite’s attachments in a mesh pouch on the lid, and that seems sufficient. Besides, it’s hard to imagine a situation where you’d be traveling with the Pro and not its case, and need the smaller bag to hold the attachments. To turn on the Theragun mini, firmly press and hold for 2 seconds the multi-functional power/speed button on the right side of the device. When we tested the decibels, the new Pro gave us about 63 dB at first speed and 66 dB at the highest speed, 5 decibels less than the 4th generation Pro (71 dB, first photo below). Now, as the decibel scale is logarithmic, a 10 dB reduction is perceived as 50% quieter, so the 5 dB difference we observed is definitely halfway there and clearly noticeable. This is how we measure the noise levels of the Theragun PRO. The 4th Gen reading was 71 dB (first photo), while the new 5th Gen maxes out at 66 dB (last photo). This represents a clearly noticeable difference.
