About this deal

I also thought about all the much missed friends and Zep comrades who are no longer around to enjoy this s As the late great David Crosby sang ”Music is love” and that’s the way it’s been for me from an early age. As mentioned before my current writing focus is chipping away at my own memoirs. Researching my memoirs is an ongoing process and discovering the roots of my passions is proving to be both cathartic and revealing.

It’s been a combination of factors that led to me retiring the TBL magazine. Nobody is getting any younger – I was 22 when I hand wrote the first issue in 1978 and here I am an old age pensioner at 66. With age comes health worries and there are ongoing issues here both physical and mental to navigate through. The scene in the Our Price record shop in Bedford that I managed on this day 29 years ago – for on October 15, 1990 the first ever Led Zeppelin compilation set was released – the double album Remasters,.to be followed two weeks later by the 4LP/CD box set. It opened up Zep to a whole new market..and boy did we sell some Zep product as Colin Stonebridge, Justin Cromie and Jason Foster will remember…great music retail days they were…Another anniversary the Remasters releases all of 33 years old this week. I absolutely loved that period – it was so incredible to see the resurgence of interest that surrounded them – here’s some 33rd anniversary thoughts… It’s an iconic group photo and it was great to be in such an historic Zep landmark on the day of the 40th anniversary reissue of Physical Graffiti eight years ago today…

We’ve transcribed the full speech below, which is a rare example of Plant discussing his time in Led Zeppelin: The arrival of the video age of course would soon make it much easier to view. I invested in a bootleg copy in early 1981 – not of brilliant quality but it had to be had! Now, through the wonder of Giles Martin and the EMI team, we can all be privy to such Beatles studio recording insights – for as they did for Sgt Pepper, we now have a vastly expanded reissue of that illustrious double album – with an array of previously unheard demos and outtakes. There’s already a great sense of occasion in the air. Original 1971 promoter Jim Aiken comes over to view the scene. “This is so special to be witnessing this again,” he tells me. “I can remember how excited we all were to get them here at the time. Nobody apart from Rory of course and a few others bothered to play Belfast. We still talk about the night Zeppelin came…” The performance in the school’s Roxburgh Hall was also unique unusual for another reason: It was an all-boys attendance and all seated. Unlike a lot of their performance of the time there was not a scream to be heard. David Magnus, an assistant to the photographer Dezo Hoffman, took a number of photos of the event.I’ll be bringing out the Remasters box set vinyl and CDs to enjoy over this weekend reveling in Jimmy’s vision of – as he put it ”The same picture with a different frame” Now this event in the life of this then 20 year old Zep fanatic was big news. I’d already seen the film six times before Christmas, the first three nights in London including the premiere plus screenings in Cambridge. So what we have here is perhaps the last remnants of The Beatles as an inventive hot live in person unit. There’s plenty of typical fab four banter between songs – this is faithfully chronicled in the accompanying booklet. I spent the day in London reveling in it – I decided to take in a couple of Zep London landmarks – this is in Gerrard Street where the four members who would become Led Zeppelin convened at number 39 in August 1968 to conduct their first rehearsal… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaqQoQ1rBH4&fbclid=IwAR2FEfDqvewCLeBJfv1sY9YrDRq3MYftgqDB-qrElzvPuFhqawY1_SOm8nA

This is no mere 46 year nostalgia trip. Physical Graffiti could be no mere anything. It’s a living breathing beautiful sounding testament to the sheer greatness of Led Zeppelin.

Below, you can see a sketch drawn by Edwards of the moment the iconic photograph was taken. The historian drew the image while fielding calls from everyone from The New York Times to BBC News to LedZepNews as we all wanted to know the story of how he discovered the photograph: A new book titled “Led Zeppelin: A Visual Biography” by Martin Popoff will be published on April 5. Popoff is the author of the book “Led Zeppelin: All the Albums, All the Songs” and was interviewed on the Zepfan podcast in December. The scene in the Our Price record shop window in Bedford on this day 29 years ago – for on October 15, 1990 the first ever Led Zeppelin compilation set was released – the double album Remasters..to be followed two weeks later by the 4LP/CD box set.
