About this deal

Manual brewing devices can seem intimidating…but they are all about experimenting. Brewing with the Hario V60 for Beginners Pour your ground coffee in to the filter + dripper, then pour a little water over to start the process A Coffee Grinder - manual or electric; we suggest starting out with a hand grinder first. You can of course use pre-ground coffee but this can spoil in a matter of hours. Use the product option selector above to select the right filters, and you can use the table below to understand the different options. Just starting out with V60 pour over? Need to know the best V60 brew time and what kind of coffee to use? No problem!

If you're using whole beans, grind them to a medium-coarse consistency. This can be frustrating as eventually you just get a feel for what's right. If you're starting out aim for a consistency like granulated sugar. If it looks like table salt it's a bit too fine For me, the copper V60 filter cone also conjures memories of my grandfather, Harold Higgins. On opening our first shop, he decided to store the beans in copper containers. He enjoyed how striking the copper looked in the shop. When you visit Duke Street now, you will find that we are still using the same caddies. Copper has now become synonymous with H. R. Higgins with us even using the Hario Copper V60 Cones in our shop and coffee lounge. When you first start looking for your dripper, you will notice that the choice is very wide. You can choose between ceramics, glass, metal or plastics. You will soon come across the latter when searching for the V60, especially from Hario. Pouring hot water through the filters before brewing is extremely important! Weight out between 16g and 18g of coffee - don't worry about too exact for your first few times. Use 1 coffee scoop's worth if you don't have scales. V60 Brewing Tips Here’s the goodie bag at the end (the best bit of any party, obs). Some bonus brew tips to help you get a perfect V60!

You can find a few different types of pour over brewers, with the Chemex and V60 being the most popular. So choosing between glass and plastics depends on your preferences and on how much damage you are planning to do to the dripper. Plastics will be better for transportation, whereas copper and china will look more stylish in a modern kitchen. Please bear in mind that not all manufacturers provide correct imagery and we may put a similar or alternative image to the actual product for illustration purposes only. The actual item you receive may differ from that which is displayed, for example the box may have changed or a model may have been upgraded or changed after we have added the product online. You only really need a V60 dripper, filter papers and some ground coffee to brew a cup of coffee the Hario way. However, there are some additional bits of kit that will help you brew a better and more consistent cup:

The paper filter stand has a simple but pleasant on the eye design and will fit into any type of kitchen environment. The ceramic body ensures high durability and so you do not have to worry about replacing the stand again any time soon. For easy and convenient access to your V60 papers filters use the Hario V60 filter paper stand. What is drip coffee? This depends on how we look at it. Technically, it is any appliance which uses filters and pours water over ground beans to make coffee. So it can be the Hario V60, Chemex, Wilfa Svart Manuell, Chomka, Melitta, Kalita, but also any no-name product. Pour some of the hot water (around 50ml will be great) over the grounds and allow them to ‘bloom’. If you see your grounds swell and bubble, that’s good – blooming good! Yes, we did put 3 heaped tablespoons above, but we always recommend weighing the grounds for perfect V60 coffee. This makes sure your coffee is really, really precise and helps you to try different brew ratios. Because you can go from 20g to 22g nice and accurately. 3 heaped tbsp to 3-and-a-tiny bit? Not so accurate. With its simplicity, the V60 is one of the most versatile methods to experiment with your brewing methods to extract the most flavour from your specialty grounds. Some coffee scales to weigh out your coffee dose. You can still use a tradtional coffee scoop, if you need to, but it's a lot less accurate. You'll need between 16g and 18g for a cup (220ml or so) for one
