Wedge Sloped 4 x 2 Triple Left in Pearl Gold (6394215 | 43710) and 2x Wedge Sloped 4 x 2 Triple Right in Pearl Gold (6394216 | 43711) - both only seen in Lloyd's Ultra Golden Dragon previously General Vangelis wields two matching accessories, both made from Vengestone. The bigger blade is interesting because there is room to place another accessory, such as the pearl gold Scythe of Quakes. The blending of pearl gold and trans-pink is not entirely successful, but the opportunity for easy customisation is certainly appreciated. "Resistance", maybe? It's not exactly intuitive, though perhaps the TV series clarifies things.
From the rear, you get a row of exposed hollow studs that make for a good jet array. The Mixel ball joints that connect this assembly to the main jet don’t look out of place, either. With the set in hand, I would say that the price, if slightly overpriced, is for the most part justified. The minifigures look as outstanding as ever in my opinion, and the Golden Dragon variants of the ninja stand out as particularly cool and unique! That said, I'm a little bummed that the original four ninja get SO many new minifigure designs this wave, yet there's only one for my favorite of the main characters, Nya. :( The General Vangelis fig here is not my favorite of the crystal generals—his Skull Sorcerer mask (unchanged from its initial appearance) covers up the shiny pink eyes all of the generals have, and I sort of wish he still had a skirt/cloak like in his original design instead of standard legs. But the golden dragon ninja are all fantastic—it's pretty amazing that in this wave alone, all four original ninja get not one, not two, but three variants (colored suits, golden armor, and glowy golden dragon versions). And the golden dragon versions specifically might be some of the coolest "powered up" versions of the ninja we've had yet (which is saying something, considering how much I've loved the NRG/Airjitzu/similar variants in the past). It’s disappointing that the story didn’t also give us a dark blue Nya Golden Dragon. I suppose she didget a very high-end “dragon type” in 71754 Water Dragon.
As it is, I'm still WAY behind on the Ninjago TV series, since lately I've only been watching it with my wife who's still on Season 8. At this point, maybe I should really take some time on my own to get caught up so I don't get spoiled any more than I already have been. Even here, General Vangelis's very NAME is a bit of a spoiler for "Master of the Mountain", which I still haven't seen — though that particular plot point had already been spoiled for me elsewhere, and LEGO certainly doesn't owe it to me or to anybody to avoid spoiling a storyline that aired two years ago! However, here in Australia, we have only this set and 71774 Lloyd's Golden Ultra Dragon, and the rest will be released in August. The dual-molded large blades in this set are great too, and it's great to be getting them in three different color variants this year. Between them and the large crystal blades from some of the villain sets, there's a plethora of large-scale weapons this year to appeal to a Bionicle fan like me. i wish the 10 year golden zane came with this mask to fit better the design of the rest. Same for Lloyd's mask and Wu's head (although the pieces needed to "fix" those already existed)"
