About this deal

Major forces are joining in the world, with heroes carrying the AGON banner. Heroes in the real PC gaming scene are the hard-core, competitive gamers as well as streamers/content creators. They combine their individual talents and teamwork to get to the top of the competition and showcase what one can accomplish with the right equipment. For these heroes, the AGON (“competition”/”contest” in Ancient Greek) series is surely the fitting companion they need. A pixel response time of 1ms means speed without the smear for an enhanced experience. Fast-moving action and dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the effects of ghosting.

Update. To get my MY M1 MacBook Pro working correctly through one of the thunderbolt 3 ports was to shut game mode. It now is displaying at 5120 X 1440 120 Hz and my key board and mouse now work well so I don’t need as many keyboards and mice on my desk which for me was 3 each now down to 2, I should have got a KVM switch a long time ago. The timing of this review was fortuitous as we had just finished our evaluation of the 43-inch gaming display. A Windows desktop also benefits from the HDR treatment when brightness is high. Working in productivity apps was fine where text was the main focus, but spreadsheets looked a bit distorted. We got used to the curved horizontal lines after a time but if you crunch a lot of numbers, try this monitor before you buy.VA glow is minimal, and light bleed is visible but not distracting. It’s far better than most IPS displays, and about average for a VA panel. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. I bought this primarily for playing racing and flight sims primarily wanting something with a wider field of view than my 32 inch 4k monitor. So far I love the monitor, setup was simple enough, works great with both my windows PC and my M1 MacBook pro. The MacBook will only allow me to set the correct resolution 5120 X 1440 through the display port on my doc, it doesn’t work correctly via thunderbolt which isn’t a huge deal but the KVM switch only works between my windows pc and Mac via the thunderbird bolt port so I’ll be trying to work around that little issue. To use KVM on more than one device, you’ll need to use USB-C on one device and the USB upstream on the other. Without a USB-C connection, you’ll need to swap the upstream cable between PCs. The issue is, with USB set to "auto" in the settings, it maps the USB B+ USB A connector to ALL DVI and HDMI displays while USB C apparently will not be auto-mapped. This means that the AUTO setting is functionally useless. You can set it manually to USB C, but this means you'll need to do this every time you switch which device you're using.

Colour saturation and coverage aren’t quite at the heady heights of AOC’s AGON PRO range, but just a few years ago these would be premium display levels. You get full sRGB coverage and reasonable DCI-P3 coverage which gives good colour in HDR content. AdobeRGB coverage could be higher, but the AG493UCX2 is primarily a gaming monitor, so this isn’t a concern. Besides the standard image settings (brightness, contrast, color temperature), the AGON AG493UCX2 offers aspect ratio control, three gamma presets and automatic input selection.

A 49-inch, 32:9 curved panel is no joke when it comes to gaming.

As such, this display is not suited to competitive gaming where fast response is key, and if you’re particularly sensitive to ghosting this probably isn’t the display for you. I thoroughly enjoyed playing racing games and sims on this monitor, though, and scenic AAA games were an absolute delight. I would highly recommend you carefully consider the kind of games you are interested in playing if you’re considering purchasing this monitor. This monitor spec says it only support the higher 5120x1440@60Hz res using DisplayPort and cable has to support 8K which the one out of the box does. Comparisons between a large, flat 16:9 monitor, like the 43-inch Acer Predator CG437K we recently reviewed, and our 32:9 curved review focus are inevitable. With nearly 4 feet of width before us, the AG493UCX is wider than a 50-inch TV. When sitting 3 feet away from the monitor, we needed to our head to see the entire image. Playing shooters reiterated the "head on a swivel" mantra, as we were sometimes surprised by enemies coming from the sides. The sense of realism is definitely heightened. But we occasionally noticed the vertical limits of the screen. It depends on the environment. Looking over a cliff, for example is different than, moving through a tunnel. But these are minor points; playing first-person titles on this thing is a blast. Coverage is how much of the gamut is covered, whilst volume includes any colour that extends beyond the defined gamut. The screen has a moderate 1800R curvature for added immersion and a light matte anti-glare coating that prevents reflections without making the image too grainy.
