About this deal

The original plan was to have the entire fleet refurbished with Club Suite by the end of 2025. Whether this is still achievable or not is still unclear – covid has wreaked havoc with the plans and the refurbishment is marginally behind schedule.

Still outstanding is the 787-8 fleet (12 aircraft), the 787-9 fleet (18 aircraft), the A380 fleet (12 aircraft) and the remaining nine 777s. How do I know if my flight features Club Suite? As you’d expect, a lot has changed since then — British Airways retired the 747, the Boeing 777-9 is delayed until at least 2025, etc. So let’s take a look at the current state of British Airways introducing Club Suites by fleet type. Seat 7 F is a standard Club World seat, however, the proximity to the lavatory and galleys may be bothersome.

British Airways has 18 Boeing 787-9s, and none of them feature Club Suites. It’s expected that retrofits on these planes will start in late 2023, though it could be 2025 before all planes are reconfigured. No British Airways 787-9s have Club Suites No Airbus A380s have Club Suites

Here are the latest fleet numbers as of January 2023, courtesy of travel and data analytics expert Cirium and Flyertalk. British Airways has 16 Boeing 777-300ERs, and 12 of those feature Club Suites. It’s expected that the remaining planes will feature the new cabins within the next year. An additional aircraft is currently being reconfigured, so soon that number will be up to 13. Club Suites on the British Airways 777-300ER No Boeing 787-8s have Club Suites Seat 21 B is a standard World Traveller Plus seat, however, the proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome.

Looking at the new seat map for the Club Suite refurbished 787-8 aircraft, British Airways is reducing the overall seat count in favour of installing additional premium capacity: Seat 21 J is a standard World Traveller Plus seat, however, the proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome. Seat 30 A is a standard World Traveller seat that is missing a window and has extra legroom, however, the protrusion of the exit door might be bothersome. The tray table and video monitor are in the armrest making the armrest immovable and slightly reducing seat width. The close proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome. There is no floor storage during take-off and landing. Also, it might get cold by the exit during flight. Whilst it cannot be guaranteed that every flight features Club Suites due to last minute substitutions, the following destinations were scheduled to have a regular Club Suite service in September 2022 according to Cirium data:

In total, we estimate that 46% of the Heathrow fleet has Club Suite in July 2022. This should increase to 58% by the end of the year, assuming BA hits its targets, and may even increase further as the airline takes deliveries of further A350s and 787-10s. Seat 30 H is a standard World Traveller seat that has extra legroom. The tray table and video monitor are in the armrest making the armrest immovable and slightly reducing seat width. The close proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome as passengers might congregate in this area. There is no floor storage during take off and landing. Seat 30 K is a standard World Traveller seat that is missing a window and has extra legroom, however, the protrusion of the exit door might be bothersome. The tray table and video monitor are in the armrest making the armrest immovable and slightly reducing seat width. The close proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome. There is no floor storage during take-off and landing. Also, it might get cold by the exit during flight. The Boeing 787-8 is the smallest variant in the Dreamliner family, and a whole 11 metres shorter than the 787-10, the largest variant.

Seat 6 F is a standard forward-facing Club World seat. This seat features no interruption from a passenger accessing the middle seat. British Airways has made good progress with rolling out its Club Suites business class, and at this point the airline offers the product fairly consistently, at least on certain aircraft types. Currently you’re guaranteed Club Suites on the A350-1000 and 787-10. Furthermore, most Heathrow based 777-200ERs and 777-300ERs have Club Suites. Meanwhile as of now, you won’t get Club Suites on the 787-8, 787-9, and A380. In late 2023, 787-8s and 787-9s should start to get Club Suites. British Airways 777-300ERs have new first class seats with doors, which represent a marginal improvement over the old product; the size of the cabin has also been reduced from 14 seats to eight seats Seat 20 F is a standard World Traveller Plus seat, however, the proximity to the lavatories might be bothersome. While this is objectively a solid business class product, what makes it most exciting is how much of an improvement it is over British Airways’ old Club World business class. British Airways’ previous business class product consisted of seven to eight seats per row (depending on the plane and layout), and was among the tightest business class products out there.
