As the episode begins, Emily heads to Gabriel’s newly-named and reopened restaurant, inspired by his grandmother who happens to be in town to help out. Gabriel invites her in, and Gigi takes an immediate liking to Emily, offering to be her grandmother in France if she’s missing her own. When Camille walks in, Gigi turns cold, clearly disapproving of her grandson’s choice of partner. In the kitchen, Camille invites Emily and Alfie to their engagement party at her parents’ château in Champagne on Saturday, once again reinforcing the awkwardness of the entire situation. Though, like always, Emily agrees to put the awkwardness aside and support her friends.
When the season starts, Emily (Lily Collins) has to decide whether to stay with Madeline (Kate Walsh) at Savoir or join Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and the others at her new firm, Agence Grateau. Emily meets Alfie for dinner and she is smiling at him as if there is no tension, no awkwardness, no regret … none of these relationships are coherent. I feel like they just pull a random, happy feeling out of a hat before each take and run with it, regardless of where their characters are supposed to be, emotional-arc-wise. Alfie accurately describes Emily’s shitty behavior (“I put myself out there, and you left me hanging”) and I shout at the screen “JUST BREAK UP” and he gives her a very platonic, okay-bye-forever kiss on the cheek. More than she deserves, if you ask me!
None the wiser, Gabriel proposes an idea to Camille: why don't they just get married right then and there? "We have the priest, we have the chapel," he reasons. Camille happily agrees. Things are chugging along steamily between Sylvie and her not-so-ex-husband Laurent (Arnaud Binard), who spend most of the finale dancing in the streets and between the sheets. Include the use of any artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted technology such as ChatGPT or another Large Language Model in the writing of the manuscript or production of images. The next day, Nicolas de Leon (Paul Forman), the very hot scion of the JVMA family, has lunch with Sylvie — he offers to bring her, Julien ( Samuel Arnold) and Luc on to work with Pierre exclusively. It seems like a perfect solution to all her problems. But, with Julien and Luc’s blessing, Sylvie turns it down. She’s committed to making it on her own. The French Revolution continues! When the Grateau gang can’t find a venue for their super luxe McLaren event, they do what we all do: Call a rich friend who owns a chateau. Antoine opens up his glorious home in Provence for the event. Antoine’s wife Catherine (Charley Fouquet) welcomes the whole crew but is a bit pointed with Sylvie — can’t blame her there. As Erik points out, Sylvie seems to know her way around a little too well. They're happy for most of the season, up until the finale when Camille (Camille Razat) announces to everyone that she thinks Gabriel is still in love with Emily. Alfie immediately breaks up with Emily because he doesn't want to be a second choice.
