When you read a non-fiction book, you also consume an enormous amount of information on the subject you're reading about. There are several threads that run through all sections of the document and to which schools will want to give due consideration when reflecting on their English curriculum and reading provision. Improve Your MemoryAs you plan for the next academic year with this guidance in mind, you may find it useful to reflect on the following questions as a staff team: Having books in the home is associated with both reading enjoyment and confidence. Of children who report having fewer than 10 books in their homes, 42% say they do not like reading and only 32% say they are 'very confident' readers. For children who report having over 200 books at home, only 12% say they do not like reading and 73% consider themselves 'very confident' readers. 8 Reading has the ability to completely transform your life situation. Even though reading is required literacy teaching for schools, its application goes way beyond that of the academic setting.
