With a dedicated centre speaker and 3D Object Based Sound, the Samsung HW-Q600A brings a new level of precision to your TV’s sound. Samsung encourages comparisons with OLED TVs, given most OLED sets aren’t as slim as the marketing suggests. At 25.9mm, it will pretty much sit flush against a wall, but LG has gazumped Samsung’s Neo QLEDs with a depth of 23.1mm. The answer to this question is very much a decision arrived at after deliberation between your available space, budget and requirements. However, it tends to be sensible to have the smaller TVs in smaller rooms, and larger ones in the biggest rooms. So if you’re looking for an accomplished 4K LCD TV that has an impressive picture quality and more than enough features to keep even the most demanding consumer happy, the Samsung Q95T comes highly recommended. It appears to have fewer dimming zones than the US and Australian QN90A, but we think that's the same number of zones as the UK QN90A. Compared to all versions of the model above it's got a more basic version of OTS sound with two fewer drivers.
One of our visitors recently had this issue. Samsung offers a choice of Dynamic, Natural, Standard, Movie and Filmmaker picture modes. The latter two are the most accurate with little, if any, difference between them. When we had the TV fully set up on the stand, with screws fastened as tight as possible, there was still a reasonable amount of wobble to the TV. It wasn’t as bad as the Sony X950H that we lambasted last year for its shakiness, but it’s still much less stable than we’d like. Of course, we can only speak about the 65-inch version of the TV that we had in for testing – the 55-inch TV might be totally fine with its lower weight and center of gravity. Samsung QN95A: availability and price There’s still no Dolby Vision support but you’ll be getting so much from HDR10 alone that it will hardly be on your mind. This is a great TV and a terrific buy at this price.
Smart TV
Performance is equally competitive when upscaling from 1080p. The sweeps over the Canary Islands in Fast & Furious 6 in HD on Blu-ray show off the Samsung’s strength of colour. The grasses, the sea, the reds and purples of the blooming flowers all make you want to retire to some far-away paradise. The Sony is probably a tiny bit richer at that red end of the spectrum and warmer on the yellows, but Samsung wins on the cooler shades. Blooming becomes a little more noticeable if you’re having to watch the 50QN90A from a fairly wide angle, but not nearly as much as you’d expect with LCD screen technology.
While you need to tweak a couple of things to get the best out of it, a well set up 50QN90A proves that Samsung’s Mini LED-driven Neo QLED technology is capable of elevating the brand’s TVs to new OLED-challenging performance heights even at a relatively mainstream size. It depends on the TV brand and model, phone brand and model, and available screen-mirroring apps. Not to mention the availability of Bluetooth connections. However, as technology improves, more and more smart TVs are capable of being paired with a smartphone. Given how clever Samsung’s latest processor is in other ways, though, it seems odd that it’s not better at optimising motion handling without manual intervention. The stand that supports the QN94A is one of the heaviest things I’ve lifted. If you’re inclined to wall-mount this set, I’d suggest putting the stand together anyway and using it for home workouts. It’s that heavy.
