About this deal

Lynsey from United States My sister and I found comfort in this song from the moment we heard it first. Our beloved brother had died at 19 years old, having taken his own life some years before. We wrote “I’m smiling next to you “ on countless greeting cards over the years as a message of comfort to each other. She dedicated this song to me at her wedding. When she died and then our mom, i interred then together with our dad and brother and inscribed the lyric on their headstone. I miss them every day but this song still makes me feel close to them , even now . Thank you Queensryche for writing it . Sincerely from the Reed family.

Brad from St. Louis, MoWell, Amy, from Dallas, TX... I find your comment very annoying considering the fact that everyone else who commented holds this song in a very high regard...including me. This song means a lot of things to a lot of different people, for a lot of different reasons. Obviously it doesn't mean crap to you, so maybe you should take your negative opinions elsewhere. Camille from Toronto, OhWhen this song came out, a lot of people found comfort and meaning in it. But I wasn't one of them. For many reasons, I completely misunderstood the song message. First of all, I wasn't sure what lucidity was, and learning it meant dream control was unsettling for me and not comforting. And why does it have to be "silent" which can imply secrecy and mystery (and is not what I want in a dream). I also thought the distorted voice in the middle of the song was scary. I couldn't make out what it was saying and thought a frightening presence was invading someone's dream. The worst part was when the child-like voice says "Hug me." I thought the voice was saying "Help me!" like they were in distress. Another thing, I don't find the idea of someone hovering over me while I sleep to be soothing, whether I'm a child or adult and regardless if it's a loved one who's very much alive and present or has passed and is watching from a spiritual realm. I mean, who's supposed to be controlling the dream: me, a discombobulated voice or some hovering presence over my bed? No thank you.Jennifer from Connecticut My first child, who was born in 1991, and is now 25 years old - was driven home from the hospital while this song played on the radio of my car. It resonates in our lives, to the exact timing and precisely dictates how both of our lives panned out. I was 19 when I had her. I protected her from her abusive father. I am about to become an RN BSN, and I'll protect her in the night. I'm smiling next to many. In silent lucidity? Tylor Lakes from Indiana Usa"Silent Lucidity" is one of the first songs I remember hearing on the radio when I was a child. This song has quite a bit of meaning for me, and has brought lots of comfort over the years. Still, to this day, to put this song on and it gives me the feeling of being wrapped in a warm sweater on a cold Winter's day. Thank you to Chris DeGarmo and all of Queensryche for creating this song. I still often imagine that it was made just for me :) Little girls do, often times, have a wild imagination though. It breaks my heart to know Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate are no longer performing with Queensryche, but things happen in life. Thanks again, because with the childhood I had this song saved my heart even into adulthood. Namaste & blessings. Boehm, Mike (June 27, 1997). "Metal and Its Byproducts: Queensryche Upgrades the Machinery Without Undergoing a Retrofit or Total Conversion". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved February 24, 2021. Here it is, another chance / Wide awake, you face the day, your dream is over / Or has it just begun?” These lines transition from the dream state to waking reality, and yet, they blur the line between the two, implying that the real introspective journey has just started. Interpretation is everything........I have read every comment posted on this board and cannot fault anyones opinion. All seem to connect to this song for a reason close to the heart. As an instrumentalist, I always listen to melody, instrumentation and engineering first....then perhaps ro lyrics. that is the way it has always been for my prioritizing music......until recently.

Thank you Chris Degarmo for writting such a beautiful song. Thank you Geoff Tate for your golden vocals, and thank you to the rest of the band and engineers who made this song timeless. It had a strange beginning. It started out as simply just acoustic guitar and voice. And it wasn't until we were almost finished with the record, just in the last week of working on the record, that we added all the other instrumentation to it.Tina from Paducah, KyI saw the BUILDING EMPIRES TOUR 3 times in 1991/1992. This song is just the tip of the iceberg on what this band does. It is a SHAME their other songs didn't get radio play. Anyone who missed this tour don't know what they missed!!
