About this deal

Now, I know that some of these features are present in other oscillating sprinklers, but we didn’t find any that had all of them like the Karcher did, nor did they have the excellent build quality to go with them. This sprinkler is very solidly put together and the materials make you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth, right down to the metal ground spikes. We also consider how easy it is to change the range or the spray pattern, the robustness of the pipe fittings, and evaluate the stability of the sprinkler in operation – after all, nobody wants a sprinkler that won’t sit still while it waters! We have over 65years collective knowledge within our team, multiple BS9251 certified sprinkler designers and a FIRAS approved Director. Oscillating sprinklers are a pretty safe bet, and as long as you don’t have really low water pressure, or a very large lawn, you should be ok, and this is one of the reasons we chose the Karcher sprinkler for our best overall oscillator. Both of these features enable you to avoid wasting water. Good job Kärcher, as this is a smart and functional design feature.

With teams based in the South East and across the UK we offer competitive pricing country wide. A lot of our work is in London & around the M25, however we work all over the UK with projects from Aberdeen to St Austell, Cornwall. See examples of our projects throughout the UK. A good quality product will give you years of use, whereas a cheap version may cause you nothing but hassle and need replacing after a short time.As great as the Gardena pop-up sprinkler, Karcher oscillating sprinkler, and Orbit travelling sprinkler are, they aren’t the cheapest models on the market. As we know there are many out there who just want something inexpensive that’ll get the job done, we decided to have a best budget category, and the winner was this product from Wisdomwell. Personally, I prefer to opt for metal whenever possible, and that’s why I would go with either the Orbit travelling sprinkler or the Aqua Joe oscillating sprinkler if it only came down to durability. Either that or something heavy duty like this. Types of sprinklers Nearly all modern sprinklers are adjustable to some degree, but the better products really give you a lot of control over the angle, range, etc. of the spray. This can be very important for people with smaller gardens or irregularly shaped ones, as it’ll prevent you spraying the fence, path, house windows, and everything else in sight.

As a result, its range can extend anywhere from 7 – 17 m (water pressure permitting), and its width covers around 8 – 13 m. There are a lot of different lawn sprinklers on the market and knowing more about each style will help you find a good garden sprinkler for the area you want to water. Rotary SprinklerLike several of the best garden sprinklers, you can adjust the oscillation and water flow of this Costwise sprinkler. In fact, it’s possible to separately adjust the left and right nozzles to get the exact spray pattern for your space. Fed up with watering your paths and wasting water? No more! They’re also useful if you have low water pressure, as the cover a small area and don’t require as much force to spray water as moving sprinklers. Pop Up Sprinkler As you can imagine, this isn’t the cheapest sprinkler set-up, and they’re also time-consuming to install. Nevertheless, they’re a good option for regularly watering the lawn and established plants. Size of Coverage As with nearly all modern models, you can adjust the spray radius on the Orbit travelling sprinkler within a 15 to 50 feet diameter. This adjustment is as simple as changing the angle of the sprayer tips, and even without really good water pressure, the sprinkler has decent coverage. Overall, you want a sprinkler with a range of spray patterns that oscillates in a way that suits your space. Also, a quality hose connector is a must– there’s nothing worse than a leaking sprinkler!

One thing you have to be aware of if you’re considering this sprinkler, is that it ships from the USA, and so there’s a waiting time for delivery and you might end up with some extra charges for importing. Personally, I think it’s worth the wait because you’ll end up with a really solidly built sprinkler, with ¾” coupling which allows for better water flow. Installing any pop-up sprinkler involves more work than any travelling, spinning, or oscillating model, and the Gardena is no different. You’ll need to set up underground hoses and connectors, and if you want real convenience, a water timer. These hoses and connectors have to be bought separately too, and this raises the overall cost by a not-so-insignificant amount, and will probably end up costing you more than the Orbit travelling sprinkler in the end. When buying a rectangular sprinkler, opt for a model that offers an area coverage of at least 200 m² . Realistically, most sprinklers fall short of their advertised area coverage – unless you have excellent water pressure – but 200 m² is a good indication of their power. These sprinklers will generally be able to spread water up to 20- 25 metres. Each setting has its own coverage range, from 32-100 sq m. In practice, we found that the rectangular pattern is actually a split jet with at least 4 metres’ range on each side, even under low pressure, and is great fun to jump through. The other three settings are better for flower beds and small gardens, with the short-range circular and square options looking indistinguishable from one another. The semi-circular option does save the day by making it useful for putting next to a veg patch or flower bed, which makes it quite versatile. Manufacturers will also talk about the size of the area the sprinkler covers in square metres. This gives you a good idea of how much of your garden will get watered, but keep in mind that the spray pattern will have an impact. Remember: if your sprinkler can’t water the whole lawn or garden, you can always move it around (though you might want to turn it off first). Is there anything else worth looking out for?

How we tested

The four settings (circular, semi-circular, square or rectangular spray pattern) are easily changed with a twist of the bright orange dial at the head. There are three main types of garden sprinkler, each available in a range of different sizes. Your choice will usually be governed by the area you want to cover. The usual comments apply: the strength of your water pressure will affect maximum coverage. Make sure that your tap doesn’t have a pressure-limiting attachment fitted, as removing this can sometimes make all the difference. These sprinklers have a ‘sled’ design, and can be placed on the ground or strapped to raised supports to alter the spray angle. Best oscillating sprinkler – Karcher premium oscillating sprinkler– this is probably the best if you have lower water pressure as you can concentrate the jets
