About this deal

We are so blessed to have access to such great resources to help us as parents to train our children up in the ways of the Lord. Whether it be specialty Bibles for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and beyond. These kinds of Bible story books geared specifically towards their age group are a wonderful way to instill God’s Word and truths into their little minds in a fun and engaging way that will help them to grow in love for God and His ways.

I also love that the stories are only a few sentences each. Even though you can’t get really in depth with only a few sentences, it’s a good way to introduce your toddler to so many stories from the Bible without risking losing their attention. So this is a great toddler Bible option![sc name=”clearfix”] The Baby Bible Series byRobin Currie Before I get to the list, let’s first talk a little bit about what you should look for in Bibles for toddlers. There are a lot of options out there, but when you’re shopping for children who are specifically 1-3 years old, here’s some things to look for in a toddler Bible:

Bonus: Two Awesome Picture Books

These insights from Scripture tell us that God is deeply and intimately involved in our growth and development before as well as after birth. From their earliest moments unborn children are subject to God’s call to be and to become. They respond in precisely one way – they grow and develop. This tells us something very important. God’s call to children is first to grow as human beings. Their growth in the womb and after birth is a response to a continued calling. God calls us to this human development in body, mind and spirit right through our lives, however long or short, until at the end we are called out of life into God’s eternal presence. This means God’s call is just the same and just as relevant if babies have disabilities or if they do not make it to birth. There are no failures because every human person is ‘known’. Every child is precious before God and subject to exactly the same call. In fact, Scripture remains deeply relevant and helpful in answering these questions as we navigate our own children through today’s world. We find children in the Bible who elucidate God’s nature so that we can gain a richer understanding of what God wants for them and what God asks of us as parents and carers. In particular, we can discover five important biblical themes about God’s relationship with children. We find that God calls children, saves children, commissions them, heals them and blesses them. How does God call children? Yes, we own every single one of these children’s Bibles I’ve mentioned below… and these are just the ones that I like and recommend! You might wonder: Why do I need to have more than one children’s Bible? Well, I’m not sure that you “need” multiple Bibles, but I have found that not a single children’s bible includes all of the stories in the Bible (or all the stories I want to teach my children). My youngest, Kayla, was born 13 months after Alyssa. We started using Bible Time with her right away. Now, Alyssa is 3 and Kayla is 2 and we continue to teach them every day.

W Brueggemann, ‘Vulnerable Children, Divine Passion and Human Obligation’, in M Bunge, The Child in the Bible (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2008), pp. 399–422. When we’re following the surprisingly simple worship plan for families, we typically use our personal Bibles. My ESV study Bible is always near me at the table, so I tend to grab that one. This is an actual Bible with all 66 books and comes in the NIrV translation to ease young readers into being able to read the Bible on their very own. The NIrV is not my favorite translation, and certainly not the most reliable, but it is a great way to bridge the gap between children’s Bible story books and the NIV, ESV, or even King James translations. Christian Children’s BooksWhile these aren’t storybook Bibles, they are excellent Bible based books that are perfect for toddlers. Wow! The Good News in Four Words We continue to revisit our favorite Bible storybooks even as the kids grow (and especially because we have multiple ages in our family), but we transition the kids into a full-text Bible of their own around 6 years old. Sometime between six and eight years old also tends to be the time we begin helping the kids develop their own quiet time, so having their own Bible isn’t only important but exciting too. The Jesus Storybook Bible— For ages 5+ Through interactive adventures and beautiful animations, kids explore the big stories of the Bible. The Bible App for Kids is a delight-filled experience designed to encourage kids to return again and again. It’s the beginning of a lifelong love of God’s Word.

At other times, our go-to choice is The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos(ours is an updated version of the 1935 original). The ICB might not be the best Bible option for Scripture memory or the Bible they take with them to college, but it makes a GREAT transition Bible through the elementary years. This toddler Bible is written in more of a narrative form (unlike the poetry and actions that characterized the baby bibles). Your child will be able to recall some details from these stories and will begin to get a sense for the lessons each toddler Bible story teaches us. We believe that God is the loving Father of all kids. It is HIS divine will that young people come to faith in Jesus Christ and find salvation through the Gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit to bring them to faith. I also want to note that the reading level of this Bible would have been too much (at 6 years old) for two of my kids. For those two, we choose one of the ICB Bibles listed above. HCSB Kid’s Study Bible— For ages 6+The Bible App for Kids is the newest member of the YouVersion family of apps. Available now for Android smartphones and tablets, the Bible App for Kids is always completely free! We believe that children and parents benefit from a strong Christian education program in the church. Every kids church ministry deserves the very best resources for teaching God’s Word, even when they don’t have the financial resources. A lot of people recommend this story Bible for younger children, but my kids never appreciated it until they were a little bit older. Personally, I found the JSB to be incredibly impactful reading it as an adult. I recommend the JSB for kids over 6 years old, but I especially recommend it for adults! If you do read this one with younger kids, we have found the DVD set incredibly helpful for bigs AND littles (you can also watch it free as part of your Jelly Telly subscription!!) The International Children’s Bible— For ages 6+ That's why I've created a collection of fun and educational activities inspired by stories and teachings from the Bible and it's also why I enlisted the help of my sister-in-law, Sharla to help share her insights. She is a woman of confident and compassionate faith -- a trait I admire. This is my absolute favorite children’s bible ever written (thus far). Sally Lloyd-Jones does a beautiful job of writing over 40 of the most important stories in narrative form, including our need for a rescuer (Jesus) in every single story (even in the Old Testament). The illustrations are a bit more abstract, but still capture the essence of each story. If you are looking for ONE bible to read together as a family, THIS is the one!

This is a great Bible option for kids, even elementary-aged and middle-grade kids. The text is written for kids, which helps make it understandable, digestible, and applicable for kids. For our family Bible time, we pull from all of the Bibles below for different seasons, stories, and purposes. However, overall, we mostly use a full-text translation of the Bible. For an even simpler version of this Bible, you can also try the toddler specific version: The Rhyme Bible for Toddlers. The Play-Along Bible When your child is as young a toddler (or a baby) it’s a smart idea to have a variety of different Bibles for a few different reasons. This book is so fun! It has lots of excitement – making it perfect for keeping the attention of toddlers. Best of all, it does a great job outlining the Gospel for little ears! The Baby Believer Series This is another great kids Bible that points to our need for a Savior. The illustrations are very lifelike and the bible itself is rather large, making the title even more relevant. This bible is appropriate for slightly older children because it is not really “fluffed” like many other children’s bibles. The Old Testament section of this Bible talks a lot about punishment and God’s anger, but then again…that is a lot of what we read about in the Old Testament. Overall, it paints a very realistic picture of the stories in the Bible.
