About this deal

Again, the Wharfedale, while good, tend toward the mellow, you might prefer a brighter more forward speaker. I can't know that. OPUS-Definitely the class of the wharfedale line, need good dedicated amp to get the most out of this line. The airy presentation gives the subtle recording plenty of space to breath, while vocals have intimacy and texture. I mounted the Diamond 10.1s on my Celestion Si stands, which are loaded with lead shot and sand. Although Wharfedale makes no specific recommendations about listening with the speakers' grilles on or off, I slightly preferred their sound with the grilles in place. Although I heard a hair more detail without the grilles, the sound was more natural and coherent with them on.

Wharfedale is an elder statesman of the audio world, with decades’ worth of expertise to plough into its hi-fi and home cinema kit. The latest recipient of its sonic wisdom is the DX-1 HCP, a compact 5.1 speaker system priced to lure the budget buyer – hopefully without compromising on sound quality. None of this would be possible without the talented sub, which anchors it all with lean, purposeful bass notes that fuse tightly to the satellites. This little bass box is a revelation, doing its job without making a song and dance about it. Aesthetically, they have a good wife-pleasing characteristic with their curved cabinets - they are quite a nice looking speaker as far as it goes. This was a factor in my choice, I must admit. The Diamond 100 Series is the latest incarnation of Wharfedale’s award-winning Diamond range, and a culmination of the lessons Wharfedale have learned throughout the 30 years of rich heritage. Featuring 4 floorstanding models, 2 bookshelf models and 2 centre speakers, the new Diamond 100 series has something for everyone, and is at home in a multi-channel surround sound system as it is a conventional hi-fi stereo setup. Every product and process in speaker design and manufacturing is handled in-house making it the most advanced research and development program, meaning that Wharfedale are able to design exactly to their own spec without limitation - and can exact this vision to perfection. Such design principles are evident in the finished product.

Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 - Q&A

These improvements have been applied not only to the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, but also to the rest of the extensive Diamond 10 Series. The full range - details of which will be announced shortly - includes two further stand-mount speakers and five floorstanding designs, plus three centre speakers, a dedicated surround speaker and three active subwoofers for home cinema applications. The discerning audiophile will also note the diamond pattern moulded into the surround of the woven Kevlar cone. This is more than just cosmetic as the pattern reduces and damps standing waves in the surround yeilding a cleaner high frequency acoustic roll-off.

And though others might disagree, I think the general tonality of the speaker is consistent enough that you can blend Diamond 9 and Diamond 10 components in the future should you ever decide to expand the system. compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parametersWharfedale launches Diamond 10 Series with the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 - the latest evolution of Wharfedale's classic high-performance, high-value 'bookshelf' loudspeaker However, these walls have been made stronger through a superior method of bonding and curving the panels, increasing rigidity and, aided by internal bracing, reducing the audible effects of panel resonance.

Cost-conscious British audiophiles have traditionally gravitated to a handful of well-known brands offering lots of sound-per-pound. One of these is Wharfedale, and since 1982 that means its Diamond series of small standmounters in particular. But designing, building and distributing loudspeakers in this particular market sector is no easy task, so the new Diamond 12 range has its work cut out. Once the company settled down and moved into further development, it produced the then new Diamond 8 series in 2001 which triggered a steady improvement process to the Diamond 12 series I’m looking at today. Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 Speakers (Pair) - Walnut

The answer I got was that Wharfedale made one critical marketing mistake. They decided to expand their market by branching out into low end consumer equipment, and rather than expanding their market among general consumers, it devalued their Brand Name for Music Enthusiast and Audiophile. When a new generation grew into the market, they already associated Wharfedale with low end Walmart/Curry's class equipment, and intuitively felt the wanted something better. Paired with another beer-money bargain, Onkyo's A-9010 (UK) integrated amplifier, the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 really shone. Confident, composed and comely, this bookshelf design proved quite addictive. However, it was the level of musical refinement that the Diamond 12.1 presented that was the cherry on top. Emerald-Probably the best kept secret for Wharfedale, very detailed and the cabinet quality was top notch.

If you're looking to get a conservatory, pool or outdoor area set-up, we also offer a range of outdoor speakers and our custom install speaker range includes weatherproof and splashproof speakers suitable for such applications. The cabinets feel substantial and robust. Affordable they may be but Wharfedale has clearly channelledas much of the cost as possible into their construction – a foundationon which good sound quality is always built. The Wharfedale Diamond range speakers are a truly iconic collection. With almost three decades of critical acclaim, international awards and millions of fans worldwide, you can rest assured that a Diamond speaker will deliveruncompromised quality. If I can compare the Diamond 12.1s to amplifier designs for a moment, the musical presentation is similar to the Audiolab 6000A and the Rega Brio-R. The latter provides a measure of bass but puts most of its efforts into the mids and treble, excelling in both while only asking the bass to underpin the mids and treble. The 6000A asks bass to be a full partner, in sonic terms, so that treble, mids and bass offer equal emphasis. So it all depends on which ones people, as you say, are referring to. The upper Wharfedale ranges like Jade, Opus, Evo and Diamond are outstanding audiophile class speakers. Then there is the real junk like the Zaldeks. Wharfedale USA's Walter Schofield told me that one of the keys to the 10.1's design is the company's vertically integrated manufacturing facility [in China]. Middle vendors are eliminated—each component of the speaker is made from raw materials in-house. The intended result is a cohesive, organic sound quality and performance, and an appearance well above the speaker's price point. The Diamond 10.1 is the first Wharfedale speaker to be voiced by European speaker designer and one-time reviewer Peter Comeau.
