About this deal

Lyre’s is an Australian beverage company offering “crafted homages to the intensity, balance, and beauty of the time-tested classics.” The name was inspired by the Australian Lyrebird, the world’s greatest mimic. I have found their White Cane Spirit to be an excellent rum substitute, so hopes are high for Lyre’s American Malt. A lot goes into crafting a bottle of whiskey: malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and aging. Depending on the grain used, country of origin, or type of whiskey being made, the process might slightly differ. Whiskey Advocate has a great explanation if you want to dive deeper on the subject.

To make the honey water: combine 100g acacia honey with 50ml warm water. Make sure mix is cool before use. Whissin old fashioned Non-alcoholic spirits are a relatively recent arrival at the party but some have been around for decades. How it’s made: Whiskey Alternative is made by distilling each botanical individually, blending them for the perfect balance, then microfiltering in batches for the final product. All the ingredients are listed on the label, which is refreshing and also helpful if you happen to have allergies or food sensitivities. It is free of common allergens. Humphreys says that many of their customers are people who just don’t want to drink all the time, rather than those who abstain completely, but it’s in the world of spirits that she’s noticed the biggest change. “There have been non-alcoholic spirit alternatives available before, but over the last two years there’s been more demand. More people are going into the development side of non-alcoholic spirits, too.” It’s no surprise that the bigger drinks producers are looking for a slice of the teetotal action. Diageo holds a minority stake in Seedlip, the “world’s first” distilled non-alcoholic spirit, while Pernod Ricard recently entered the realm of alcohol-free spirits after agreeing a distribution deal with Ceder’s, which is made in Sweden. So don’t expect to try any of these and think they will taste like whiskey if you just had whiskey yesterday. While I have tried to find the best options of non-alcoholic whiskey currently available for you, I am still not very impressed with non-alcoholic whiskey as a whole.

Country of Origin: USA | ABV: 0% | Tasting Notes: Clove, charred oak, apple cider, sweet corn Final VerdictIt took him and his team about a hundred recipes before they could perfect their blend. They also made sure their drinks were free from sugar, nuts, calories, and gluten by using only natural ingredients. While beers and some wine alternatives have had a small foothold in the market for a number of years now – and based on the Heineken 0.0 I tried at the Mindful Drinking festival, progress is definitely being made in terms of flavour – there’s a new trend emerging for something much less likely. Non-alcoholic spirits sound like the definition of a pointless exercise, yet in 2015, Ben Branson launched Seedlip, a distilled non-alcoholic spirit, the world’s first, a spectacularly fragrant drink that combines botanicals and can be used in place of gin, for example, and mixed with tonic water. He placed the first batch of 1,000 bottles in Selfridges, and it sold out in three weeks. The second took three days to shift. The third sold out in 30 minutes. Now you can buy it in selected supermarkets and it appears on the drinks menus of upmarket restaurants and bars around the world.
