The single lid makes the whole unit heavier to lift (18 pounds). This is our main issue with the Ninja Foodi models, though their models range between 21 and 26 pounds. The convenience that comes with a singular lid model—compared to its dual-lid predecessor—has many benefits. This shorter pot fits 8-inch pans easily, and if you have a very narrow push-pan with no lip, you may even be able to make a standard 9-inch cheesecake in this model. However, a traditional springform pan will not fit. This machine has its pros and cons—whether it will work for you depends on your needs. Anyone who is yet to be convinced by multi-cookers. If there’s ever a multi-cooker that’ll convince you it’s this one. At the risk of sounding dramatic, it has the power to change the way you cook forever. One-pot cooking is addictive, especially when you have 13 cooking functions to choose from. In the replacement lid that I was sent, the small plastic protuberance that snapped off didn't seem particularly shoddy. Other highlights included the sauté function, which, at its highest temperature, is hot enough to sear and seal meat to a good standard. It’s still not quite as fierce as my gas hob, but pretty impressive when compared to other multi cookers I’ve tested previously. I also found the proofing mode very useful for pizza dough, especially at times when the cold weather hampers your dough-rising ability. The lid is really well-thought-out. The button and switches are intuitive, the pressure cooking cover makes for easier clean-up, and the cover releases and inserts easily.

But opening the pot after the timer ended just revealed warm milk that had slightly curdled—not yogurt. We even tested this recipe twice (to be sure there was no user error on our end) and got the same results. The Instant Pot is one of the best-known electric pressure cookers. Each of the brand's 15+ models offers several functions — that's why the appliance is also known as a multicooker. The manual for the Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid specifies that the minimum cooking liquids is 2 cups of liquid unless otherwise specified in the recipe. Well feasibly yes if you live on your own in a small apartment, studio or student digs. But the upshot is that, aside from air frying, I haven’t used any multi cooker that is as easy as a set of pots and pans. I also find that pots and pans produce better looking food, but, hey, that’s just me. Nevertheless, there are thousands out there who love pressure cooking for speed and slow cooking for convenience so more power to their elbows, I say.

Which brings me to the instruction manual – or rather leaflet – which is full of dos and don’ts and nothing about using the machine. Thankfully there is a QR code in the leaflet so I scanned it and was presented with some kind of online manual that seems to have more videos that text.

The delay start* timer function allows you to pop your ingredients into the Instant Pot in the morning, or the night before, and set it to start at the time you want – between 10 minutes and 24 hours. Even if you arrive home later than expected, the keep warm function (which can be set for up to 10 hours) will ensure you sit down to a hot dinner, and 11 built-in safety features ensure peace of mind, whatever your chosen cooking method.We found the control panel incredibly easy to navigate, especially for someone new to pressure cookers, and the material is durable and easy to clean. This model is heavy and has a large footprint, but if you're using it to replace several appliances, you might be leaving it out on your kitchen countertop (rather than pulling it out as needed, as some do with their pressure cookers). I used the air fry setting to cook some bacon and it worked just as well as my usual standalone air fryer. The preheat only took two and a half minutes and the bacon was ready to eat with crisp rendered fat in just seven minutes, a great result. Cleaning the Instant Pot Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid When you’re measuring, since the lid is attached, make sure you have enough room overhead to ensure you can open the lid fully without running into any cupboards or light fixtures. On my counters, I needed to turn the unit sideways to cook in it. Touch the Air Fry button, then touch the Time button and use the silver dial to set the cook time to the time specified in the recipe. Press the Temp button and use the dial to set your air frying temperature. (This unit goes to a max of 400°F.)
