About this deal

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Pittyvaich (image via Johnnie Walker) Tasting Notes: Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost And Rare Pittyvaich Johnnie Walker is the world's number one Scotch Whisky brand, enjoyed by people in over 180 countries around the world. Since the time of its founder, John Walker, those who blend its whiskies have pursued flavor and quality above else. Tasting notes include creamy wood notes, vanilla, soft smoke, spiced apples and aromas of peach and berries. Appearance: Clear, with a bright gold translucent hue. Viscous on the sides of the tasting glass with clearly defined rivulets forming. This renowned distillery, nestled on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal, shipped its distinct scotch from Glasgow to ports across the world for nearly 200 years. Built in 1811, Port Dundas became a whisky blending powerhouse known for its distinctive sweet and delicate grain character before it closed in 2010.

The Speyside distillery of Pittyvaich, which opened in 1974, closed its doors in 1993 after only 18 years in operation making its former whiskies a rarity. Johnnie Walker master blender Jim Beveridge said: “We have waited patiently for the perfect moment to showcase this rare gem of the whisky world. Pittyvaich may only have thrived for a short period, but the whisky laid down by this distillery is something unmistakable. Its distinct autumnal character has always intrigued us and fired our imagination to create something really special that would pay tribute to the whisky makers of this Speyside distillery.” In celebration of the pioneering achievements of Emma Walker and Ivona Tau, Johnnie Walker is creating more opportunities for women to achieve their goals with a dedicated business grant through IFundWomen- the go-to funding marketplace for women-owned businesses. IFundWomen is an ongoing partner in the Johnnie Walker 'First Strides' initiative, which aims to celebrate and enable people and organizations moving culture forward. Walker said: “Port Dundas was, in its day, one of the finest grain whisky distilleries in the world and the rare expressions that we have chosen from our reserves are some of the most distinctive it has ever produced – their slow maturation allowing their sweet and delicate grain character to blossom. The two other “ghost whiskies” in this particularexpression are Caledonian and Carsebridge, which balance out Port Ellen’s peaty and saline intensity. In addition to all that, five rare malts join the blend to round out the notes, flavors, mouthfeel, and finish: Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol, and Oban—all of them at least 20 years old.

Johnnie Walker Ghost Rare Details

The Port Dundas whisky has been combined with liquid from two further closed distilleries, Cambus and Brora. The whisky is then blended with rare Scotch from Cameronbridge, Glenkinchie, Clynelish, Dailuaine and Auchroisk. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. The Jonnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series continues with this fourth installment, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Pittyvaich. As with the prior Ghost and Rare releases, this limited edition is blended with “irreplaceable ‘ghost whiskies’ from Scotch whisky distilleries that have long since closed.” The centerpiece of this one is Speyside’s Pittyvaich, which closed its doors in 1993. Ivona's NFT art in this Master Set draws inspiration from the vital element and force of nature, water, and builds upon her "Under the Waves" project. Her process consisted of multiple stages of AI to create 75 unique NFTs that capture the juxtaposition between the constant flow of water and the water tamed within each bottle of Ghost and Rare Port Dundas. Each of the 75 NFTs will differ, making them as rare as the whisky itself.

The distillery, located on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal, shipped its whisky from Glasgow to ports worldwide for almost 200 years. It was built in 1811, but closed in 2010. Standard bottles of the annual release — without the signature or digital components — will be released nationwide in October.

This whisky also marks the first Ghost and Rare expression from Johnnie Walker master blender Dr Emma Walker, who took over from Dr Jim Beveridge OBE who retired earlier this year. Perhaps Ghost and Rare is the closest you will ever come to drinking a “haunted” whisky. Can it be said, however, that a bottle of rare elixirs, taken from three “silent” distilleries, is worth a price tag of three to four hundred dollars? Good question. It’s worth reminding you that there are five other spirits in the blend, as well. Naturally, there’s a lot more than Port Dundas in this blend, so I’ll let the House of Wlaker tell you some more about it all:Wood, vanilla, and soft smoke notes are abundant in this year’s release. The prominence of Port Dundas whisky in the blend pays homage to the Glasgow icon.
