About this deal

More than 130 people have now signed the petition which calls on the school, founded in 1881 and with 1,025 girl pupils aged 11 to 18, to drop a rule which states that students in the sixth form should not wear 'strappy' or 'sleeveless' tops which reveal their bare shoulders. He said: "The subject was discussed with the deputy heads and it has been decided that both Langton schools will ensure that the same dress code applies to all students within their sixth form." Pupils say strappy tops are more comfortable in hot weather and they say the dress code ruling is old-fashioned and fuddy duddy. They also say there's a more disturbing aspect to the regulation because it draws attention to what sort of clothes they are allowed to wear and how much flesh is revealed. But at the end of the day it is school and there needs to be some rules otherwise you'd have people in bikini tops and very short shorts...boobs and bum cheeks hanging out all over the place is not a nice look for school."

Meanwhile angry pupils at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School in Canterbury are continuing to gather names on a petition claiming the strappy tops ban 'sexualises young girls'. A ton of our favorite celebrities ( no, really, a lot of them) have embraced this year's biggest trend, but stylists have understood the power of the sheer dress for a while. From Kate Moss's iconic sheer slip dress to Rihanna's lingerie bump at Fashion Week, it's safe to say this trend is here to stay. I'm not interested in what they look like (as long as they're not offending anyone), it's the work that's important. The argument that shoulders shouldn't be seen in a workplace is irrelevant, as our generation is the future workforce.

Of course, the jungle-green Versace dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammys represented another turning point in Donatella Versace's career (with the singer later wearing a reissued version on the catwalk during a Versace show in 2019). Rather than breaking the internet, Lopez's iconic fashion moment actually improved it: when the singer first wore the original dress it was so heavily searched-for online that it inspired the creation of Google Images. Around since the ’90s, these barely there dresses have gained a rush of popularity lately and ushered in an era of unparalleled sexiness and lingerie dressing. They dare our favorite stars to go a little shorter, a little more see-through, a little bolder. Tulle, organza, and mesh are the name of the game—and in a world that is quite literally catching on fire, who cares if you have a glamorous nip slip? Why cover up? You might as well have a little sheer dress as a treat. But another mum, Marie Smith, posted "Some sixth forms have to wear uniform...I understand your argument and I think vest tops etc are ok. The petition, launched by Maddi Lane, one of the senior pupils, reads: "This rule encourages the disturbing sexualisation of young girls' bodies, most of which are underage.Celebrating the female form has been central to many of fashion’s most iconic moments over the years – spanning decades – such as Madonna’s catwalk debut for Jean Paul Gaultier in 1992, where she famously wore nothing but a high-waisted skirt and the frame of a bra. We also can’t talk about the power of the naked dress without mentioning Elizabeth Hurley, who upstaged her then-boyfriend Hugh Grant at the 1994 premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral wearing a daring Versace dress, held together by safety pins.
