Crop circles are large, geometric patterns that appear in fields of crops, usually wheat, barley, or corn. They are usually created overnight and are characterized by the circular or spiral shape of the flattened crops. The size of crop circles can range from a few feet in diameter to several hundred feet, and they often contain complex and intricate designs. There are quite significant changes to the shape of the humanoid, which becomes almost 'alien-like' and to the diagram of the Arecibo dish. For clarity, I've not bothered going over these in red because the differences are easily apparent. first spacecraft from Mankind destined to escape the solar system - Pioneer 10 - carry an historic “Message from Mankind” (below). The pattern which occurred in the Chilbolton crop field, is the same image as shown in the books (ie. the one on the right of fig.3 and the mirror image of the original decoding). This could imply that IF someone hoaxed the formation, they copied the incorrect pattern printed in a book. Alternatively, I may have converted the original pulses by mapping left to right when converting into a 23x73 grid, instead of going from right to left - which personally doesn't seem correct to my interpretation of the original binary sequence. The crop circle is a near replica of the Arecibo message, which contained various pieces of information such as the numbers of chemical elements, the composition of DNA, the position of Earth in the Solar System, and a depiction of a human being. The "answer" itself doesn't expand much upon this and still forms the same 23 x 73 grid (because these numbers are primes) and most of the chemical data remains the same. The changes to the message to create the response are straight from existing alien folklore and science fiction. In the section detailing important chemical elements, the main focus is altered from carbon to silicon, and the diagram of DNA is re-scribbled slightly. At the bottom, the pictogram of a human is replaced with a shorter figure with a large, bulbous head. This is a clear reference to the "grey" type of alien, and as a depiction could only be something that a human came up with. As with any extraordinary claim, the Chilbolton Observatory crop circles encountered skepticism from the scientific community. The estimated number of DNA nucleotides in the human genome, and a graphic of the double helix structure of DNA (white and blue, respectively) The reason for this is down to mathematics. 1679 is the unique product of two prime numbers; 23 and 73. Any sufficiently intelligent lifeform would no doubt look for unique, universal constructs - such as prime numbers, chemical element frequencies and binary digits. Don't forget that because we could be trying to communicate with an intelligence completely different to our own, we cannot talk in terms of 'human' systems, such as centimetres, feet, decimal numbers etc. While reading this, I hope that you feel the sense of wonder and learning that I felt whilst writing it. The Arecibo message was symbolic’ a demonstration of the extent of human technological accomplishment. This was the most powerful broadcast ever deliberately beamed into space. It was us proving to ourselves, that if we ever want to shoot a message across the galaxy, we can! Did the aliens reply? The original message was comprised of several 'sections', each depicting a particular aspect of 'our civilisation'. At the top are binary representations of the numbers one through to ten, interestingly showing the numbers eight, nine and ten as two columns. This shows anyone decoding the message that we can specify that numbers too large to be written on a single line can be 'carried over'.
