About this deal

Ultimately, vibration damage seems to depend very much on the model of phone and the bike’s engine. Those few I know of who’ve had problems – using any mounting system– have all been using older generation iPhones, and have had them repaired under the Apple warranty. I’d recommend having the USB head connected to an outlet that’s disconnected when the bike’s turned off (or go for the hard-wired version). The wireless head does ‘remember’ its last state when powering up, so you could leave it turned on and ready to charge if you have a switched auxiliary supply. Mous has also developed a range of motorcycle mounts to suit its cases, though options are rather limited for now, and prices seem to be on the high side. With fast adaptive charging of up to 36 watts, your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy will stay charged for longer.

At the time I didn’t notice an on/off button just underneath the lip of the wireless head. Pressing this will shut the unit off and make sure it can’t drain your bike battery. However, you must remember to press this again when you next want to use the charger head.

Customer reviews

A: We sure do! This is our Waterproof 12V to USB Smart Adaptor, and it's designed specifically to bridge the gap between your motorcycle's battery and the Weatherproof Wireless Charging Head. It features an Auto function to keep the device off until the battery voltage rises above 13.5V and to turn off when input voltage drops below 12.5V. Perfect for a vehicle such as a motorcycle or ATV to avoid battery drain. Different phone manufacturers also implement different approaches to manage the charge rate in the aim to protect the phone's battery. Standard wireless charging is 5W whereas Fast Wireless charging is charging above 5W up to a maximum of 15W. Exposing your iPhone to high amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges, specifically those generated by high-power motorcycle engines, can degrade the performance of the camera system.”

As with the existing Desk Mount, the reusable nano-suction adhesive base means the Wireless Charging Pad stays in place, making it easy to remove your device with just one hand.Purely anecdotally, I have been told by a dealer that they had some instances of iPhones (I don’t know which models) experiencing issues while using a dampener, but I haven’t been able to verify them and there are a huge number of people using them without any problems.

Is it more of a problem with some devices than others due to the construction of the OIS? If so, what is the difference in the devices?Q: What's the difference between Weatherproof Wireless Charging head and the standard Wireless Charging Head? Some manufacturers have implemented their own Proprietary Extended Power Profile (PEPP) for their devices. This means unless you are using a charger specifically designed to support PEPP, you are limited to the Base Power Profile of 5W wireless charging. Two screws are used to fit the base, with a pair of 16mm and 18mm-long M4s supplied to replace the ones fitted to your bike. Make sure you use the right length, and don’t force them if they seem to be bottoming out. We have further information about expected wireless charging speeds and the effects of heat over here.

I would then video the devices as I rode on paved and on sandy, wash boarded roads and record the movements of each device. A: Wireless charging is only 70-80% efficient so the additional 20-30% of energy is converted into heat. In normal conditions, this is not usually a problem, however, using the wireless charger in your car in direct sunlight can compound the issue and cause some phones to overheat. Once the mount is attached to the bike, removing the lever mechanism allows fitment of the wireless charging head, which you then wire up to the bike’s battery so it can charge your phone. The standard Wireless Charging Head is for indoor use such as in your car or desk. Q: Will it drain my battery if I leave my bike parked? I never tested the charger from 0 percent phone charge, but it took less than an hour to charge my Samsung S10+ from 65 to 100 percent. If your phone isn’t compatible with wireless charging then you can use a more conventional USB charger in place of the wireless one, and you’ll need to use a charging cable to get power from that to your phone. The RAM universal X-Grip mounts are popular with many (including road-test legend Simon Hargreaves), but they’re far from a subtle design, and some users report the phone’s buttons being pressed by the mount’s arms. What I can tell you is that I’ve had no problems over many thousands of miles with a Samsung Galaxy S21 and a Google Pixel 7 Pro fitted to a BMW R1250GS using a dampener.
