About this deal

A note about front-leg amputees: The Flagline is truly the best harness for front-leg Tripawds yet. But keep in mind that without that fourth leg, all harnesses may shift a bit during the day. When sized and properly adjusted, however, all harnesses we carry have minimal shifting. The front clip is helpful for dogs who like to pull, as it directs the dog’s weight sideways when they lean into a leash that is attached at the front of their chest. This reduces how much they can lean into the harness/leash without changing their center of balance, which reduces how hard they can pull. Number of Color Options Honestly, I love both harness so much. Ruffwear makes excellent full-body harnesses. But if you forced me to choose, the Flagline is a little better for most dogs in my opinion. At 277g, this harness? Is lighter than my go to harness for Indie (the perfect fit), which doesn’t have as much containment as this one does. It doesn’t offer these features. For Ruffwear to have achieved this within this weight? Is pretty darn impressive. Lifting and stuff happens in a lot of dog sports – like parkour or aspects of agility – the handle and it’s weight-spreading design means that your dog sports dog is less likely to injure themselves if you have to help bear their weight during a jump or dismount. Indie ready for our hike together, wearing the ruffwear flagline harness. It’s such a wonderful harness, particularly for hiking Who the Flagline’s Not For.

Find The Right Size For Your Dog

Looking for a more secure option with the additional belly strap, or a lift-and-assist option with a handle and belly support? The Web Master, Flagline, and Switchbak all meet those needs.

But the Flagline Harness isn't just about comfort and convenience. It's also about providing your dog with the support they need. The harness features a padded handle and a load-dispersing chest/belly panel. This design allows you to lift and assist your dog easily, making it ideal for senior dogs or when the terrain gets a bit challenging. If you are familiar with Groundbird Gear harnesses, then this system might be very familiar to you. In fact, the Ruffwear Flagline Harness reminds us a lot of our Groundbird Gear harness. Both are lightweight, easy on/off, and include a full chest/belly panel (which we will discuss in more detail later). When we researched different harness types for hiking dogs, we found a couple of research studies that concluded that the less surface area a harness covered, the less it altered a dog’s natural gait. (Our review of this research can be found in our post “3 Tips for Choosing the Best Harness for Your Dog’s Next Adventure.”) Ruffwear is a well-known company in the world of dog-apparel and harnesses. If you have read many articles on this blog (or if you follow us on social media), you may have noticed that our dogs are frequently photographed wearing Ruffwear Webmaster Harnesses. The Webmaster Harness fits both dogs well and has held up to a lot of abuse on hiking trails. So when Ruffwear announced an updated version of the Webmaster Harness, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on the new Flagline Harness.

The Ruffwear Flagline Harness is a Game-Changer for Helping Tripawd Dogs

The Ruffwear flagline was tested in L/XL which fits true to size. It was tested mainly on hikes and in rivers and similar to give evidence to what it was designed for. The pictures below compare the Webmaster to the Flagline again. You can see how the belly strap is not connected to the chest straps of the Webmaster. The new design of the Flagline connects these straps with a solid chest/belly panel. This provides much better support when needing to lift the dog by the padded handle. The Flagline Harness is also about ensuring a perfect fit. With six points of adjustment, you can tailor the harness to your dog's unique shape, ensuring they're comfortable and secure on their adventures. This harness is solid. The fabric doesn’t snag easy. The base plate (chest plate? Whatever you want to call it underneath your dog!) is not only great protection, but it’s also wonderfully effective for spreading and containing your dog if you need to lift them. Dog Sports Dogs Take your dog’s girth measurement while standing up for the perfect fit. See this video for measuring help.

The Ruffwear Flagline harness is a game-changer for three legged dogs. It’s the leanest and lightest harness yet, and the only Ruffwear harness that slips over your dog’s head making it the easiest to put on front-leg amputees – regardless of which leg is missing. The Ruffwear Flagline Harness is a Game-Changer for Helping Tripawd Dogs

Not all harnesses are suitable for all dogs, or all conditions. So, here’s a few things that I see as being potentially problematic in regards to the flagline. Dirt dwellers Another key factor could be the front leash clip-in point. If you are working on leash pulling with your pup, the front leash clip-in point is helpful for redirecting dogs that pull on their leash. In this case, the Front Range is the way to go.

The bottom panel disperses the weight of dogs in the harness, for additional comfort when lifted. The bottom also adds stability to the harness, further minimizing shifting. It’s strong, and reliable, the handle is flush too, which I really appreciate. It’s not the cheapest harness, but it is definitely worth every penny. I love that it’s sturdy, and when it comes to an escape artist dog? This is the only piece of equipment that I would trust. We suggest using a soft towel slung under the belly if additional support is required in the meantime. A reusable canvas shopping bag slit down the sides also makes a handy temporary sling / harness for three legged dog. Find instructions for DIY Tripawd sling here. Compact, light profile. It’s cool to wear on hot days, and is friendly to petite and small breed Tripawds. The size small Flagline Harness is intended for dogs with chest circumferences from 22 to 27 inches. Despite Glia being on the high side of that range, we still had plenty of strap left for future adjustments after fitting the harness to Glia’s current size/shape. The solid chest and belly panel of the Flagline looks much more comfortable for the dog, especially when a dog is being lifted/assisted via the handle on the harness. To be fair, many Web Master users have “solved” this difference by using the brush guard or core cooler to help prevent the straps of the Web Master from digging into the dog when lifted. In the image below the Flagline harness is a little loose as we had not re-adjusted the straps after Glia wore it over her sweater.)
