About this deal

The main difference between the Xiaomi Essential, Xiaomi 1S and Xiaomi Pro 2 is the battery. Basically, the battery gets larger from the Essential to the Pro 2, meaning it can cover a greater distance on a single charge (20 km, 30 km and 45 km respectively). It also means the Essential is the lighest and the Pro 2 the heaviest. The other consideration of a larger battery is the time needed to charge it. The Essential takes the least time to charge, whereas the Pro 2 takes about eight hours. As on the previous models, Xiaomi offers three driving modes on the Mi Scooter Essential: pedestrian, standard and sport. The former is designed for walking on sidewalks, the latter for making the most of the engine’s power and Standard mode for saving energy. Set to 20 km/h on the most powerful scooters of the brand, it is here limited to 15 km/h. At this rate, I must admit that I almost wanted to pull out a book while driving to pass the time … As this scooter is a fairly new release, it’s still too soon to empirically say how long of a lifespan you can expect from it. However, given that it comes from arguably the best scooter brand in the world, and it has learned a ton from the mistakes of the other Xiaomi models (most of which were the best-selling and most popular scooters ever made), it is safe to say that the Xiaomi Essential will go for years and years without major defects. All we have so far are early owner reports, and they are pretty much all brilliant, with owners reporting very few defects on average. Motor and power

If this may be suitable for my use knowing that I live within a radius of 5 km from my place of work, with a generally flat route – or 10 km round trip, which even leaves me a little room to make a detour -, the average distance traveled in a day for daily transport is closer to 20 km, or even exceeds them (21.4 to 22.2 km according to Institut Paris Region in 2011 and 25.76 km according to SD Worx on the Europe in 2018). It, therefore, remains reserved for people making very short trips on a daily basis. As mentioned, there is also a difference in the top speed of the scooters. The Essential has a top speed of 20 km/h (12 mph), whereas the 1S and Pro 2 have a top speed of 25 km/h (16 mph). As with the M365 Pro, the Pro 2 also has red trim on the front wheel. However, it is differentiated from the M365 Pro by the yellow reflectors, which are also found on the Essential and 1S (there has been confusion over whether the 1S will sport yellow because the original Chinese version of the Xiaomi 1S kept the red). It’s a shame that the height of the handlebars is still not adjustable, which may prove uncomfortable for people who are short or very tall. Likewise, the handles cannot fold up, so the Mi Essential remains quite imposing when folded up, which can be a problem in smaller apartments.Reflektori su dodani na prednjoj, bočnim i stražnjim svjetlima, dodatno poboljšavajući noćnu vidljivost kako biste bili sigurni tijekom vožnje noću. The Xiaomi tyres are 8.5 inches in diameter and pneumatic. The idea is that air-filled tyres makes the ride smoother. The ride is indeed smooth as long as the ground itself is reasonably level. I have ridden the M365 extensively in Mexico City, where road repairs fall fairly low down on the "to-do" list, and found that, as long as major potholes are avoided, and a comfortable riding stance taken, most road surfaces can be comfortably traversed. Unsurprisingly, cobble stones present something of a hazard. We particularly like the throttle lever which allows precise speed control and almost eliminates the need to use the manual brake except in emergencies with a little habit. This makes driving very pleasant and above all very accessible to grip and makes it ideal for a first electric scooter. The display on the Essential is the same as that from the M365 Pro, meaning it shows your speed, battery level and riding mode. There are three riding modes: normal, pedestrian and sport. The accelerator is a button on the right-hand handlebar, while there is a bike-like brake on the left-hand side, as well as the somewhat superfluous bell (which is needed to keep the Essential folded). A powerful LED light is built into the front of the handle for nighttime riding. Some have complained the light on the Xiaomis is too bright, but I disagree (it is not quite as bright as my bike light's top setting). There is also an improved rear light that flashes when you brake.

Also, coming from Xiaomi, the most popular electric scooter brand ever, this scooter is a clear winner for anyone that wants to play it safe and get a scooter that’s tried and tested by millions, from an established top-level manufacturer that guarantees quality in every single unit, and that has tons of satisfied owners to vouch for it. The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooters are some of the best electric scooters we’ve reviewed and it’s of no surprise that we continually see them on the best selling lists. All three scooters come with the dashboard from the original M365 Pro, meaning they offer a speedometer (alongside a few other symbols) as well as the battery indicator. The modes are the same across the scooters (and slightly different from previous versions). They all have "Normal", "Pedestrian" and "Sport" modes, but the top of the Normal and Sport mode is less on the Essential (see below). We can also mention the presence of inner tube tires, which Xiaomi claims have been reinforced since the M365 and its numerous punctures. It is certainly a little more comfortable than solid tires on rough roads, but it would have reassured the longevity of the scooter. Especially since the Xiaomi Mi Scooter Essential does not have suspensions and each passage through a pothole on the road will have an impact directly on your arms no matter what. The Essential's handlebars also differ, inasumuch as they are foam instead of thermoplastic rubber. We would always recommend wearing a helmet when riding an electric scooter. Most scooter injuries seem to happen when a pothole (or similar) is encountered and the smallish wheels are indeed susceptible to such obstacles. Please read my post Are Electric Scooters Safe? for more information and statistics on the safety of electric scooters. As we often point out, as of June 2020, it is not legal to ride privately owned electric scooters on public roads in Britain, although few police forces take any action against riders. How do you decide between the Xiaomi Essential, Xiaomi 1S and the Xiaomi Pro 2? This brief guide will give you the details to help you choose between the new Xiaomi range, focusing on the few differences between the Xiaomi scooters. The Xiaomi Mi Scooter Essential is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 5100 mAh, which is 33% less than the Mi 1S. On paper, this difference is reflected in the nearest km on the autonomy with 20 km of autonomy announced, against 30 km for its big sister. The Xiaomi Essential basically follows the established Xiaomi standard of how an electric scooter should look like, and that’s great news for customizing it, as the vast majority of electric scooter accessories out there are made to fit the Xiaomi and other popular models.

Just like with the 1S, and most certainly the Pro 2, Xiaomi has however improved some shortcomings of its previous models on the Mi Essential. This is particularly the case with braking. There are currently 3 models in the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter range. Starting with the best value entry-level model, Essential, sitting alongside the mid-range, mid-priced 1S model and then onto the powerful top-of-the-range Pro 2 scooter. It seems that you don’t change a winning team. Xiaomi’s formula for its electric scooters must be a winner given the few changes made from one model to another and the Mi Scooter Essential is no exception to this rule. Understand that at first glance, it almost looks like the Mi Electric Scooter 1Sor just the M365, although if you pay more attention you can still see some differences. The Xiaomi Essential Electric Scooter is a foldable e-scooter designed by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi (pronounced "show-er-me"). It is manufactured by Ninebot, who also manufacture the Segway branded scooters. The Essential has the normal Xiaomi folding design, 20 km (12 mile) range, 20 km/h (12 mph) top-speed, 12 kg weight and pneumatic tyres. It also boasts cruise control, front and rear lights, E-ABS brakes and a phone app (the Mi Home app seen below). The frame is basically the same as the M365.

Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Overview

Xiaomi have replaced their all-conquering M365 electric scooter but have confused matters slightly by creating two models out of the M365: the Xiaomi Essential and the Xiaomi 1S. The Essential is essentially (pun intended) the M365 with an upgraded dashboard, less powerful battery and cheaper price tag, whereas the 1S is essentially the M365 with the upgraded dashboard and slightly better battery. Oh, and both have better tyres than the M365. But let's have a closer look at the Xiaomi Essential. The Xiaomi Essential has an official range of 20 km / 12.5 mi, and that range is confirmed in independent user tests so far. Some users on the heavier side report getting less range in their everyday rides, and even those are pretty rare.
