About this deal

The advantageous relation of lens diameter and magnification enable observations at dawn. All models comprise not only a dioptre adjustment but alsocollapsible rubber eyecups for spectacle wearers. The handy rubber armoured body of the BRESSER Hunter 10x50 binoculars allow a firm grip. A tripod thread is standard for all Hunter binoculars. And putting the binoculars on a tripod, we were able to observe four of Jupiter’s moons and a definite oval shape to Saturn. The field of view of these 10×50 binoculars is quite wide, making them perfect for activities such as bird watching and general outdoor activities, travel and sports, among others. Binoculars with magnification up to 6x allow to keep field of view super wide which is critical for children.

SF in their name (15x70 & 20x80 ED), somewhat confusingly implies that they are, Self Focusing Binoculars, however it actually means they have an individual eyepiece focus mechanism with a diopter adjuster on each eyepiece and no central focus wheel.Operating out of their headquarters in Germany, but with distribution centers all over Europe and in the USA, Bresser Optics design, build, and sell telescopes, spotting scopes, microscopes, and niche electronics and are one of the leading suppliers of optical instruments all over Europe and the rest of the world. As for a maximum age, a lot depends on their previous exposure to optics, but these should be perfectly fine for kids of about 10 or 11 years old. For older or more experienced kids, take a look at some of the standard compact binoculars that I suggest below. We liked how the hinge moves very smoothly, with just enough resistance to enable easy adjustment, but without sagging once the binoculars are mounted. The exit pupil should be no larger than the dark-dilated pupils of your eyes: a pupil of anywhere between 4-6mm is fine for your first pair of binoculars. Our test showed that stars in the middle of the field of view snap to an obvious best focus, but those near the edge are degraded, mostly due to mild field curvature.

Cluster Collinder 70 overflowed the 4° field of view, but the chains of stars really came to the fore. We thoroughly enjoyed scanning colourful star-fields with these. They are very well-balanced, which makes them feel even lighter than they actually are.

Colour rendition and control of false colour are both very good. There is just enough eye relief for spectacle-wearers to be able to see the entire field of view.

We were impressed with the brightness and excellent colour rendition of the image, which is sharp over the central 80% of the 6.5° field of view. This makes them ideal for scanning the sky. By having these caps attached to the binoculars, they won’t get lost and you’re probably more likely to use them, too. Colour rendition is faithful, and on-axis chromatic aberration is very well controlled; false colour only appeared on the lunar limb towards the edge of the field. There are currently five models within the Pirsch ED series, all of which have an open bridge roof prism design and range in size from the mid-sized 34mm versions, to large 56mm models.

We were able to use them to scan colourful clusters like the Meissa Cluster, and found even subtle variation in colours was apparent. If you are still not sure which 10×50 binoculars you should buy, let’s review again the ones I chose as the best, of course without forgetting that what you choose should be the one that best suits your needs. The Best
