About this deal

The 45g keypress is very minimal and hence is a great thing to have. Are the Gateron Brown Switches Good? I recorded a couple of audio clips to give you an idea of the sound differences. I installed both switches in my Skyloong GK61 and recorded them with an Audio Technica AT2020. First up, the Cherry MX Reds: If you’ve spent any amount of time looking into which gaming keyboard you should buy to level up your gaming setup, you’ll have heard about mechanical keyboards. When comparing mechanical vs membrane keyboards, mechanical switches are the clear winners when it comes to comfort, durability, and performance.

For that reason, if you’re thinking about getting a Gateron switch we recommend going with a linear actuating switch.

Gateron Browns are probably your best bet if you want to save money but still have a high quality switch. Instead of the typical mechanical switch where the electrical plates need to touch for the switch to actuate, instead one the stem moves past a certain point light will actuate the switch.

While being Cherry MX clones, Gateron’s main switch lineup does differ slightly from Cherry MX. Gateron switches are typically smoother due to a slightly smaller stem which can make using a Gateron linear switch much more enjoyable than a Cherry MX one. Brown switches are named that way because the color of the stem is brown. The stem is the section of the switch that moves up and down on each keystroke. Best Use For Brown Switches Just as the name suggests, these switches have been designed to deliver ultra-fast speeds but in a small form factor. MX Low Profile Speed switches have a 45cN actuation force and 1.0mm pre-travel. If you’re in the market for a new mechanical keyboard, but you’re not sure what style switch you should choose, in this post, we’ve highlighted the main differences between red, blue, and brown switches. That being said, if you work in a super quiet office, your keyboard may stand out a little bit. The brown switches are not most quiet option, unless you go for a Gateron Silent Brown. Otherwise, a linear switch is your best bet as they produce the least amount of noise.

So, you’ve decided you want a mechanical switch with a tactile bump. Maybe you’re a student who needs to do a lot of typing, or maybe you play a lot of MOBA, MMO, or strategy games that require precise and frequent button presses. Whatever the case, you want that bump. The question now is: Blue or Brown? Travel Distance – the travel distance of a switch is the distance from the top of the key (un-pressed) to the bottom of the key (when pressed all the way down.) The point at which the switch is fully bottomed out is the end of the travel distance. It is also measured in millimeters (mm).
