We then used an ESXi server as the source and, again, found no difference between what was captured and the original content. Intel NUC 11 Performance The results from our tests (Table 1) indicate that the NUC 11 had a slightly slower speed than the NUC10i7FNH system (with an Intel i7-10710U six-core CPU) and was slightly faster than the NUC8i7BEH system (with a four-core CPU). The NUC9VXQNX System with its 8 core Xeon processor E-2286M and discreet GPU performed approximately twice as fast as the NUC 11. Overall, the results are aligned with what we expected to see with this system as the NUC 10 and NUC 11 both had more cores and this benchmark did not stress the graphic capabilities of the systems. SPECworkstation 3 Some early listings for the system suggested a model with an Intel Core i5, but Intel doesn't plan to sell one. The CPU has integrated Intel Xe Graphics operating at 300 MHz with a burst frequency of 1.35 GHz. The GPU has 96 Execution Units (EUs) and can support two 4K displays, or one 8K display, at 60Hz. This is the second unit we have reviewed that had a CPU containing an Xe iGPU. The TPD and RAM are shared between the CPU and GPU. The one big change I made? I turned off the skull on the front, leaving all of the lighting on the bottom. Intel really needs a nicer logo for these gaming-grade NUCs.

Invariably, Intel’s new NUC 11 Pro will be compared to its predecessor the NUC 10 Pro, as these NUCs were designed for similar use cases. Below is a comparison of the key hardware components of these two systems as well as a NUC 8, NUC 9 Pro, and NUC 10 CE that we previously reviewed. Feature I really like this size. It kind of reminds me of an eGPU box, except that it's got a whole system in it. It fits perfectly on a desk, and is far smaller than my mid-tower that takes up far too much room in my tiny apartment. Intel NUC 11 Extreme Kit (Beast Canyon) SpecificationsNUCs come in a variety of form factors and are used for many purposes, such as home theaters or home labs. But they are not just for home users; enterprises have been using NUCs for such diverse purposes as graphic workstations, edge devices, VDI clients, and nodes for hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI). We have also previously configured and reviewed NUCs for different use cases, ranging from using a relatively low-powered NUC7CJYS to run IGEL Workspace to running ESXi on a NUC 9 Pro. This NUC 11 shows support for various versions of Windows 10 and Linux, but it sadly does not show support for Windows Server or ESXi. Intel NUC 11 Design and Build The NUC and the iBuypower were close on our Handbrake test, in which we transcode a 4K video to 1080p. Intel's desktop took 6 minutes and 28 seconds, just ahead of the iBuypower. The Corsair One a200, with a more powerful GPU and more cores, tore through the test in 4:44. Software and Warranty on the Intel NUC 11 Extreme Kit (Beast Canyon)

These use the 11 th Gen Intel Core G series 10nm processors. TDP Maximum is 28W, so these are midway between a full desktop and a low power use notebook processor. Invariably, Intel’s new NUC 11 will be compared to its predecessor the NUC 8, as these NUCs were designed for similar use cases. Below is a comparison of the key hardware components of these systems as well as the NUC 10 and NUC 9 that we previously reviewed. The same thing happened on Grand Theft Auto V's benchmark on very high settings. It ran at 91 fps at 1080p, but wasn't playable at 4K, while more powerful graphics cards had no problem. The Intel NUC 11 is ideal for home theater, home office, or gaming. Small and mighty, dominate the digital space with the 11th generation core processor from Intel. This desktop mini PC delivers top-notch unprecedented performance in multiple ways. Offering Ethernet, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, this modern mini PC is designed to take on both simple and intense tasks. Use multiple screens without worry On the Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark, the NUC 11 Extreme Kit reached 84 fps at 1080p on highest settings, but was unplayable at 4K. You'd have to turn down other settings. Both the iBuypower and the Corsair One outperformed in 1080p and were playable at 4K on the same settings, thanks to beefier graphics.

Intel NUC 11 Performance

The NUC 11 we received had a CMCM2FBAV Intel NUC Chassis Element (Fort Beach) with a CM11EBv716W Intel Compute Element (Elk Bay) that contained an Intel 11 th generation Tiger Lake Core i7-11857G7 mobile processor and 16GB of RAM. This is one of Intel’s fastest mobile processors and contains Intel’s new integrated GPU (iGPU). This processor is also used in ultra-premium notebooks. This CPU/iGPU should only be slightly less-performant than a low-end discrete GPU.

We also recently did a podcast with Kristin Brown of Intel specifically on the topic of NUCs ( located here) that you may enjoy listening to. Intel made some interesting design choices with their wired networking and USB connectors on this NUC. For instance, while Intel has 2.5GbE NICs available at approximately the same price as 1GbE NICs, they decided to go with the 1GbE NICs. Also, they chose to use USB-A rather than non-ubiquitous USB-C ports. The ports do support 3.2 Gen 2 speeds, but we are seeing more and more accessories with USB-C cables. Intel NUC 11 Operating System SupportOn Red Dead Redemption 2 (medium settings), the NUC didn't hit an ideal 60 fps at 1080p, but was close and still playable even at 4K.

Clarity doesn't use ANID and so this is always set to 0. To remove the Compute Element, we would have needed to remove the Element Board, which we opted not to do. The RAM is contained within the Compute Element and cannot be replaced or updated. The solder traces on the system board were very clean, and the system board itself was substantial yet uncluttered. This is one of the cleaner boards that we have seen yet. Compliant standards: the product meets numerous safety regulations, EMC/RF, and environmental standards The Intel NUC 11 Extreme Kit takes a bit from both schools. It is a small, 8-liter size that takes up very little space. But with Intel's Compute Element, you can still upgrade your PC, adding more storage and RAM (though the latter uses components designed for laptops). And this design can fit longer, full-sized GPUs, so it's less limited on that front than Intel's older model, the NUC 9 Extreme Kit (Ghost Canyon). Perhaps the biggest compromise is that Intel is using 65W CPUs, while desktop versions can go up to 125W.To use the capture card, you plug an HDMI cord from a device (e.g., PC, server, gaming console, etc.) and then use another cord from the output of the capture card to the monitor. You can then use software to view, capture, or stream the video as it transfers from the device to the monitor; we used OBS Studio, but any software that supports capture cards should work with it as well. As this was the first NUC that we received with a 2.5GbE NIC in it we were curious as to how well it would perform. As we didn’t have another system with an onboard 2.5GbE NIC we attached a CableCreation USB 3.0 to 2.5 Gigabit LAN Ethernet Cable Adapter to the NUC 11 CE that we previously reviewed. We connected the two NUCs together using a MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+IN 10GbE 5-Port Desktop Switch using Cat 6 cables. The CPU has an integrated Image Processing Unit (IPU), which is a co-processor that was initially designed to improve video capture images and video quality. Lately, AI and ML applications have been leveraging IPUs to increase performance. When it came to Far Cry New Dawn, things looked up. The NUC's 3060 was just a few frames away from the iBuypower at 1080p and ultra settings. It was also above that 30-fps playability threshold at 4K, albeit not as close to the competitors as it was at the lower resolution.
