About this deal

Rosewood allows me to enjoy what I do love about Bronze... the soft, warm, powdery pastry-like feel, with just enough citric quality to kind of "wake it up" from the bergamot. Rosewood feels to me like it has much more going on than just amber, tea, and bergamot... I swear I detect orchid.

There are subtle differences between all these scents but rosewood doesn’t have that strange metallic harsh base that both montales and the mancera have. But wait! It’s not that type of rosewood which perfumers use, with its floral, slightly rose-like odour: that’s from the Aniba rosaeodora tree, better known as Brazilian rosewood. It takes a massive amount of the tree’s wood to produce the oil: each tree’s said to yield just 1%, by weight, of oil to wood. With such huge amounts of timber felled to extract teensy qualities of oil, it’s no wonder that Brazilian rosewood trees – which are grown in the rainforests of Brazil, Mexico and Peru – are now protected, under CITES (the convention which safeguards endangered flora and fauna). It’s also on the official list of endangered flora of Brazil. So: how come rosewood still turns up on ingredients list…? Clever perfumers know that other woods deliver similar effects, and can be used to replace its richness. Although it speaks of the desert, it should not be related to fragrances that portray the burning sands of the Middle East, but with sandy landscapes and constant breeze. It is perfect for special occasions, romantic dinners, and more sexy nights, except ballads and dance floors. That's because, in my opinion, Desert Rosewood does not match with warmth or sweat, but with a well-cut suit or a trim dress, when heeled shoes draw more attention than the clothing itself and the perfume is used as a weapon of seduction. It is worth remembering that the fragrances of Goldfield & Banks are gender-free.

We were at Penhaligons and of course Bergdorf Goodman could not be missing. But in the end I flew home without new perfume! None that I wanted to afford laughed at me that hard. It was great to test everything, so I thought I would get that at home too. Delicious blend of creamy vanilla and a sweet rose with just a hint of oud to balance out the sweetness. I personally can’t detect anything animalic in here. It’s a cold weather gourmand dream! Throughout evolution, a liqueur scent is noticeable, as if a strong drink had been spilled on the living room's rug during a visit from friends. It is not something that bothers, but that everyone feels. For me, this is the biggest differential of this creation. Although the vanilla is present, the benzoin is more prominent on my skin, reinforcing the oriental aspect of the fragrance. Rosewood is an uncomplicated, clean musky woods fragrance. I have worn it to work quite often and received a compliment from a male customer that said it smelt like a soothing, woodsy spa-scent. It's a fragrance with no frills.I loved the smell of Bronze, but was unable to pull it off because of the tartness of the lemonade accord. I do envy those who can make tart citruses work.

Desert Rosewood is easily my favorite from Goldfield & Banks line-up, probably because of having a lot of my favorite notes and being most unique to my nose. I already used almost all of the sample, I think it is a full bottle worthy. On my skin this is an absolute monster. It will not fade or disappear until i wash it off with lots of soap. I have this, Leather Oud (LO) and Purple Oud (PO) and i think this might actually be the "dirtiest" of the three - even more so than LO which is famous for being very funky. This one is VERY animalic and indolic after the initial fruity notes has disappeared. Where LO starts our funky but then settles in to something a bit more crowd pleasing this one keeps going strong.

For the 15ml, 30ml and 60ml Extract Spray: In 2021, the market trend has changed and PP are keeping with that trend. Customers want beast mode performance, and with the extracts you get exactly that; amped up formulation with added booster ingredients that will give you better longevity and sillage. Although slightly higher priced, its worth that extra amount if you love to make a statement with your fragrances. The concentration is higher compared to our normal EDP sprays mentioned below. This is a lovely fragrance that reminds me of one of my favorite smells: fragrant triple-milled soap in an old wooden drawer. It's supposed to be for women: the box is super femme, the bottle is a little whimsical (but also quite attractive), but the fragrance doesn't smell feminine to me. It smells more like a nice amber candle burning in a massage studio or an upmarket retail shop (like Banana Republic, or if that's too on the nose, maybe Pottery Barn). That sounds like a diss to committed fragheads, I'm sure, but I actually like this fragrance sometimes. Maybe it's not as deep or as intoxicating as Samsara, but this reminds me of the scent of my 1928 Knabe parlor grand piano, that rich old resinous mahogany aroma that reminds me of childhood visits to a very old neighbor who had beautiful antiques. Desert Rosewood was launched in 2016 and was created by François Merle-Baudoin. The inspiration was the region known as Central Highlands in Victoria, an area that has a lot of natural diversity, including forests full of myrtle, sassafras, ferns, mosses, eucalyptus, and even Australian Acacias called Golden Wattles (Acacia Pycnantha Benth). I'll agree that this one is reminiscent of Ellen Tracy's Bronze, but in my case, that is a happy thing.
