About this deal

The SM58 has just about been around since the beginning of time. It's the ultimate vocal microphone. It's not only extremely robust, but is able to transfer all the vocal frequencies you throw at it though to your mixing desk, whether it be soft female vocals, or loud male vocals from a thrash metal band, so it can really take a beating on being shouted into and doesn't distort. The SM58 is the world’s most popular microphone; built to last and designed for vocals the Shure SM58SE featuring an on/off switch will serve you for years to come. World’s Most Popular Dynamic Microphone Amazing Shure Build Quality If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offered

With its frequency response optimised for vocals and the warm, clear sound, the SM58 is the legend among vocal microphones worldwide. In an emergency you can use it pretty much across the stage, it will even handle the sound pressure from a snare drum, but there are better mics suited for that.

So if you're still trying to make up your mind about whether to go for a SM58 or not, just buy one anyway, and make up your mind later. Consistently the first choice of performers around the globe, the SM58S vocal microphone is a genuine world standard and a true audio legend. The Shure SM58S is a unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic vocal microphone designed for professional vocal use in live performance, sound reinforcement, and studio recording. You can be confident of its durability - Shure tried freezing it, cooking it, and submerging it. They even dropped it from a 7-story building and it still worked! Once you know that, you understand why The Rolling Stones take the SM58 on tour. Beta58 has an extended high frequency response, it's high mids / low highs ('presence') are a little faint, but can be easily EQed in, as it takes EQ very well.

Beta58 has a significantly higher output level at similar SPL - if you are working with less expensive preamps this can be a big advantage. With the SM58, it depends a lot on the preamp used if you get pro level results or not.The SM58SE, like all Shure products has been built to last. The casing on the microphone has been created entirely from metal for a heavy duty ruggedness that can withstand the rigours of touring and even the most lively performances. You can depend on the SM58S to do your voice justice. Exceptional performance and build quality have earned it a legendary reputation both in the recording studio and on stage. Now with a silent on/off switch, you've got full control - right at your fingertips. It's no surprise that when The Killers cut Mr Brightside, when Patti Smith gave power to the people, and when Public Enemy brought the noise, they were all holding Shure's legendary microphone. Please Note: The image depicted is merely representative of the bundle and variations might occur depending on the options you select.

The sound profile was also designed with a cardioid polar pattern and ‘bass roll-off’. This feature allows for the ‘proximity effect’ (increasing bass by moving closer to the mic) letting singers make changes to their vocal tone on the fly. As far as I'm concerned, if you had to look up the word "microphone" in the dictionary, it would say "See Shure SM58"Shure SM58s has a durable build. Whatever you do with it, it is very unlikely to break. You shouldn’t try using it as a hammer, as has been suggested by some… but it is certainly strong enough to survive a dozen of drops and more. Don’t get too excited though. Most recent dynamic mics won’t fall in pieces either, as all of them have a very simple construction. In case with SM58s, it is just a capsule wrapped in ball-like screen, which by the way acts as an effective pop filter, and an on/off switch. That’s it. The original Shure SM58 doesn’t even have that switch, but I suggest you go for the “s” aka switch version. Verdict Personally I don't think a review is required for a SM58, but for those of you who are fairly new to the game, and are not just simply looking for a mic, but looking to invest in a piece of equipment that will be with you for MANY years..........
