The bulk of this issue appears to have stemmed from disagreements between Lane-Poole, and the First Naval Member, Admiral Sir Francis Hyde, who in his final years in command of the RAN could display a disagreeable personality. On 17th December 1973, a theatre show, Captain Pugwash, written by Ryan and John Kennett, opened at the King's Road Theatre in Chelsea, London.
