About this deal

There are two main types of scales: analog and digital. Analog scales use an interior spring that compresses when the scale is weighted and displays the reading on a dial. Generally, analog scales are the cheapest option, but since they don’t require batteries, they rely on the human eye for an accurate reading. For example, doctors tend to be more concerned about body fat that’s concentrated around your midsection because this can increase your risk for certain health conditions, like heart disease.

Ozeri’s Rev 400 lbs (180kg) Bathroom Scale may not be as high-tech as some of the other scales in this bunch. But thanks to its classic, no-frills design, it's incredibly easy to use. Our testers gave it a perfect score for setup, a 5 out of 5 for ease of use, and a 4.5 out of 5 for display and readability. The scale also did OK on the accuracy tests we gave it—falling 1.3 pounds off in our comparison test and 1.6 pounds off in our dumbbell test. In our second test, our surface test, we wanted to see how consistent each bathroom scale would be when used on different surfaces. We started by placing the bathroom scales on a hard tile floor, then we weighed ourselves on each of the bathroom scales. After that, they placed the bathroom scales on a low-pile rug and weighed them again. The results from this test varied so greatly that we determined using the bathroom scale on a rug was not a good reflection of its capabilities There are many different kinds of bathroom scales available. And it can be tough to sift through all those options. So to help you find the right bathroom scale for you, we tested 23 bathroom scales, both at home and in The Verywell Testing Lab. In the lab, we subjected each bathroom scale to three reading consistency tests and one durability test. And throughout this process, we evaluated each bathroom scale on seven key attributes: reading consistency, setup, data storage, display and readability, ease of use, durability, and overall value. We gave each bathroom scale a score (out of five) for each key attribute. And we averaged these scores to calculate an overall rating for each bathroom scale. If you're a Garmin running watch user, we can see the allure of buying Garmin's Index S2 Smart Scale, which sends weight and body composition data to the same Connect fitness app. The scale works statistically fine, in terms of recording readings that varied by no more than 1%. Our real-world tests were similar, in that we measured accuracy and precision in the same ways. The core difference in the real-world test is the duration of the test itself. Testing two bathroom scales at a time, we took the bathroom scales home, set them up with the accompanying apps on our phone, and tested our weight at least three times a week for a month straight. We made sure that we did so right after waking up, before eating or drinking. We recorded our notes on the display, ease of use, accuracy and throughout and at the end of the testing period. The display was great. It takes about two seconds for your measurement to pop up on the screen and the clear, bright LED measurements were extremely easy to read even though this was a smaller bathroom scale. You can change the measurements from pounds to kilograms if you need to as well. The button is underneath the bathroom scale, so if you want to change it, we suggest doing that before you go to step on it. We think that the price point perfectly matches the bathroom scale’s capabilities and you can choose to extend your warranty up to three years. We tested accuracy by weighing calibration masses of known weights. We did so across a range of weights over a total of four tests with each scale. The most accurate scale got the "answer" right, to the nearest tenth of a gram. The least accurate scale missed three of the weights by one gram. In the grand scheme of things, given what we're typically weighing with these scales, this isn't a huge variation. In short, for typical kitchen and office use, all the scales we tested are accurate enough. FITINDEX’s Bluteooth Body Fat Scale did an incredible job with the tests we gave it. The scale was off by just 0.1 pounds in both our comparison test and our dumbbell test. So it proved to be the most accurate scale in this bunch. And our testers were particularly impressed by how user-friendly the scale was—giving it a perfect score for setup, a perfect score for display and readability, and a 4.5 out of 5 for ease of use.

The greatest benefit to using this type of scale is that you can measure your body fat in the comfort of your own home at any time, all without having to travel to a gym or clinic. It also performs a full analysis of your body composition and measures BMI, body fat, body water, and bone mass to give you a more comprehensive idea of your overall health. The Garmin Index S2 could be a useful tool if you're already a Garmin watch user, but ultimately is not worth the price. The Conair Weight Watchers Digital Glass Scale is a great option for people who want a no-frills scale. It’s simple to use and provides consistent, accurate readings. The scale features a large, easy-to-read display. Depending on the type of body fat scale you have, the information can link up to your smartphone or smartwatch, as well as any fitness apps you might have. https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/weight-management/adult-overweight-obesity/health-risks If you’re exercising regularly, making healthy food choices, and not seeing the scale budge, it may be time to assess your body fat percentage.

The Greater Goods Digital Food and Kitchen is small and sleek. The diminutive construction and grey color scheme virtually disappear in any kitchen, which we appreciate very much. In our accuracy test, it was an average performer. However, average accuracy, in this case, is pretty darn good. A one-gram error here and there is hardly noticeable in typical kitchen or home use. Lisa Quintiliani, PhD, associate professor of medicine, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, September 23, 2022 The EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale is a great budget-friendly bathroom scale with everything you need to monitor your weight. While most scales are limited to around 400 pounds (181 kg), this scale can measure up to 700 pounds (318 kg). The Nicewell 22-lb Digital Kitchen Scale has a clean aesthetic and offers a much greater capacity than most other options. At 10 kg (about 22 pounds), the maximum capacity is more than enough for almost any home kitchen project. The base of the Nicewell is grippy, and the overall scale itself is pretty heavy. This makes for a highly stable scale that doesn't get easily pushed around. To get one of these scans, you’ll need to find a center that has the equipment. The scans can be pricey depending on your location and may not be covered by insurance. Handheld fat measurement devices
