The reality is that morality isn't a high point on the agenda in this, which makes the counterpoint to the equally amoral Wolfmore necessary to avoid too much scrutiny over what is little more than a lesser of two evils situation; taken on its own and it's occasionally hard to avoid the fact that the story of Hustlers isn't necessarily one that's cause for celebration. Well, no more so than the charting of the rise (and semi-fall) of the gangsters of Goodfellas - which is often how this plays out. This isn't 2019's Widows; these really are bad girls.

The Hustler (novel), a 1959 American novel by Walter Tevis about pool hustler Edward "Fast Eddie" Felson David Yates takes time out from being the in-house director of the Fantastic Beasts films with a formulaic, factually based drama on a subject that has already been thoroughly explored by other, more serious-minded movies, documentaries and television series: America’s opioid crisis and the cynical workings of big pharma. What’s novel here is that the film focuses not on the victims of the aggressively mis-sold cancer pain medication at the core of the story, but on the team of ambitious, money-hungry drug reps and company execs who will stop at nothing to hawk their product to unscrupulous doctors. Subsys is a very strong and addictive painkilling drug that is based on the opioid fentanyl, which according to the CDC in the US, is up to 100 times stronger than morphine and 50 times stronger than heroin.
