About this deal

Geronimo Stiltonoot has the right combination of familiarity and newness to satisfy Stilton fans. (Fiction. 6-10)

When Marcy's adventurer father, Arthur, disappears in Egypt, she reluctantly sets off in his footsteps. She soon finds herself standing before the great Sphinx and must answer its riddle before she can enter and find Arthur, who is trapped inside. Her only option is to ask the Egyptian gods for help, but in the end it is up to Marcy to complete the final task. Can she overcome her deepest fears and save her father? The reader is once again welcomed by professor Brownstone, but this time he is in the Brownstone family's observatory, and is set to tell the story of Marcy Brownstone (daughter of Arthur Brownstone, the first Brownstone and protagonist of Arthur and the Golden Rope), who is afraid of many things and wonders if she is really an adventurer (like her father and mother). Yet when her father disappears, Marcy figures out that he has hone to Egypt, and she sets out to find him ... and save him. An adventure filled with ancient Egyptian gods and legends, Marcy is a clever girl whose love for her dad leads her to daring acts of bravery. Many years have passed since the tale of Arthur and the Golden Rope, and Arthur is now a world-famous adventurer. If only his daughter Marcy shared his enthusiasm for exploration…Marcy believes Arthur is in danger and reluctantly traces his path all the way to the Sphinx where she must answer a riddle to rescue her dad who is trapped inside. Kids will love this exciting excavation of ancient Egyptian myths as they follow along with the clever Marcy on a quest to save her dad from the belly of the sphinx! Many years have passed since the tale of Arthur and the Golden Rope, and Arthur is now a world-famous adventurer. If only his daughter Marcy shared his enthusiasm for exploration... This book is fictional. It is an historical adventure. The book is all about a little girl called Marcy whose father, Arthur, is an adventurer. Her father goes on a journey to a desert to get a book all about the secrets in the world. He gets trapped by a snake and Marcy helps to free him. They have lots of adventures. It’s a really good story and I would recommend it. Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Joe Todd-Stanton is a fabulous fun topic book for your KS2 Ancient Egypt topic. Many years have passed since the tale of Arthur and the Golden Rope, and Arthur is now a world-famous adventurer. If only his daughter Marcy shared his enthusiasm for exploration

I like the book. It was very adventurous. It tells us what happens after Arthur and the golden rope and what other adventures he has being on. The book also shows the ancient Egyptian gods. Such a fun follow up to Arthur and the Golden Rope! Arthur has grown up, married, and become a father while still managing to be an avid adventurer. He notices that his daughter Marcy is hesitant to explore the world, so he sets off mysteriously to obtain a book in Egypt for her. Let us introduce you to our six-week English scheme or work for Years 3 and 4 (P4 and 5) based on ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx’ by Joe Todd Stanton. If you haven’t already seen this brilliant text, it’s a graphic novel based on Ancient Egypt. Disclaimer: Many thanks to NoBrow for the opportunity to read and review. Please be assure that my opinions are honest. This is worthy continuation on Todd-Stanton's basic premise and it enriches the tapestry he has begun to put together. I like the fact that he uses Arthur yet again, albeit as starting point to set Marcy's story into motion, just as very much appreciate Marcy as the book's protagonist. It ensures both continuity of and expansion upon what has already been introduced and established.

Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx is very well written and beautifully illustrated. My son and I love the step by step illustrations of Marcy as she takes to reach her destination like the picture below or how she travels through the maze of obstacles to rescue her dad. The illustration of Egypt is an eyeful. There are lots of Egypt history to look at. It could have been helpful if there were names next to each picture. This book is fantastic for kids who are afraid of the dark and for those who loves an adventure. I like the riddle and wish there were more of it. I highly recommend everyone to read this story! When her brave father is trapped inside the Sphinx, a fearful young girl must summon her courage to save him. Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx is the very definition of charming. I love that the story follows directly behind the previous rather than jumping through other ancestors first (it's cute to see Arthur as a dad!). The art is, of course, stunning! You can really tell that Todd-Stanton was a kid fond of the maps & cutaways that featured in books like Eloise (hard same, my dude, hard same). These addition, to me at least (with my big old 90's nostalgia glasses) give the story an old-school adventure feel in the best way. I can unequivocally say that small child Darcy would have loved this book with both hands (& large child Darcy does too).
