It's water and weather resistant, basically. The HYBRID CONCEPT design allows ARIA series headlamps to run on either the CORE rechargeable battery or three AAA/LR03 batteries without an adapter. The "Tac" bit is short for Tactical and is aimed at the military, hunters, fishermen, those guys who seems to only war military issue/faux military issue kit despite looking like the military isn't something they are actual familiar with.

Why the TACTIKKA+RGB? Well, it’s lightweight (less than three ounces), it’s weather-resistant, and it comes with the rechargeable CORE system so I can save some coin on batteries, though, I can pop in three AAAs if I’m far from an outlet. It’s plenty bright with three levels of illumination for white light maxing out at 350 lumens, which is more than I ever needed for my travels in the dark for hunting season. I don’t think I ever moved beyond the dimmest setting. In a pinch, I also used that dimmest white light setting as I would a lantern by suspending it from a rope overhead. It worked brilliantly. The TACTIKKA+RGB has a 160 hour burn time for lowest-level (6 lumens) white light, 60 hours for the colored lights, and 2 hours for maximum brightness. And the strobe is visible at 700 meters for 400 hours. Surely they could find me before the batteries konk out. This basically means the batteries directly power the light source with the maximum light output when the batteries are fresh and then power slowly decreases over the lifetime of the batteries. There are three lighting modes, proximity, movement and distance that are easily interchangeable - just press the single button in the middle of the headlamp to change the brightness of the beam.For what it's worth, I really rate the MYO range from petzl for general mountaineering and have the old TIKKA RXP (superceded by the reactik range) that I use for running and increasingly as my primary torch. Both would be good replacements for your tikka, though the reactiks are lithium ion batteries (optional crossover kit for AAA, or spare Li-ion batteries available). Personally, I've never had a problem with using them for weekend missions, or longer trips where I'm not expecting to use them for long durations each day. The Tactikka® has red, green or blue helping preserve your night vision, multiple lighting options with proximity lighting or focused lighting help sort your needs.

Headlamps from our ARIA range are specifically designed to meet the needs of professional craftspeople, maintenance workers, and stage riggers. Probably a bit late to the party but I also lost the will to live with Petzl. Not least because (at the time?) they were advertising the new range which wasn't even available to buy.

I’ve not had a problem yet, but I wish it was truly waterproof instead of just water-resistant.
