It’s Samsung’s biggest camera sensor upgrade since the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, yet we found the hyped-up 108MP camera mode captures photos that don't look much different than snaps taken in the main camera's default 12MP mode.

And that's the rub with the Galaxy S20 Ultra camera. It has the best hardware we've seen on a camera phone, and deserves all of the hype it's attracted. But autofocus and overexposure issues leave us wondering why you should pay so much for big camera spec numbers that result in photos that look pretty good, but not any better than what you can get on an iPhone, a Pixel or last year's Note 10 Plus. Samsung’s single-take mode and 8K video That's troubling for such a pricey camera phone. You also lose some features in 108MP mode, including motion photos (fine) and beauty mode (won't miss that), and there seems to be some baseline skin smoothing you can't control (not good).

Essentially, if you want the best Samsung has, this will be worth your investment. S20 or S20 Ultra: which one is the better value? The Galaxy S20 Ultra could still be many people's first 5G smartphone as it's still fairly new tech.
