About this deal

I thought the midfoot fit felt a little snug at first, but as each run went on, it formed better to my obnoxiously wide feet. Some of the Altra fans may complain that it’s not as wide as it used to be, but if I can wear them, you probably can too. ROBBE: The last time I reviewed the Torin was two years ago for the Torin 3.5. There was a great deal I enjoyed about that shoe in regards to performance. Very comfortable, lightweight, enjoyable to run in. One of our reviewers has flat feet and loved the Torin 5 for running, saying she felt supported in all the right places. Alright, I have to be honest. I have a soft spot for a little extra cushion in my running shoes. Don´t get me wrong, I love my slimmed down, 7oz, no-nonsense racing flats, but when it comes to pounding the pavement to get my daily miles in, I really enjoy the cushion. The Torin 5 strikes a nice balance between soft and responsive in their Altra EGO MAX sole. La marque commercialise en effet bien d’autres modèles de chaussures running et trail que la Torin 4.5, tel que l’ Altra Lone Peak 4.5 que nous avons également testé.

The Torin 4.5 Plush is an excellent daily trainer, long run, or easy recovery day shoe. The zero drop cult and curious truth-seekers should be pleased with this one. You know what you’re getting before you even step into the Altra Torin 4.5 Plush—it’s right there in the name. By the spring of 2019, the Torin 4 came out. This was a two-year shoe, and for my shop, I think this was our favorite Altra that we had in here. I know for a road shoe, the Escalante was a massive change for Altra, but as far as people just put on a shoe and were really happy with the fit and feel, the Torin 4 was an awesome shoe. Brooks Ghost 13: If you prefer a shoe with a 12mm heel then the Brooks Ghost has a soft cushioned ride. They are also available in several widths: L’empeigne de la Altra Torin 4.5 Plush affiche de la maille technique douce. Cette configuration enveloppe le pied confortablement tout en offrant une ventilation appropriée au sein de la chaussure, notamment quand il fait chaud en été.Altra designers built the Torin 5 on a slab of cushy foam with a 0mm profile to offer the most stable, energetic feel on the run. Another one of our reviewers has been training in Torin models consistently for years, and loves the feel of the zero-drop profile. The Torin 4.0s aren’t too tight, meaning no real pain or discomfort, but they were noticeably snug. My arches are mostly flat and I like to have a little shape and support underneath them on the run. The Torin has just the right form to support my feet comfortably,” she says.

I’d love to see Altra trim a bit more of cushioning off of this shoe as I’m a fan of fairly minimal amounts of cushioning, but I really can’t complain about this shoe overall. The Torin 4.5 Plush really lets your foot do its thing,” one tester says. “I can wiggle my toes and don’t feel like they’re getting smushed together by the shoe. It was a little snug at the ball of my foot, but it doesn’t cause any problems when I run.” After the first run, however, any worries about the tightness of the shoe went away. The shoe felt great on the road, right out of the box. While I like the aesthetics of the new design, what really matters to me about any pair of shoes is how it feels on my feet.Since this is a .5 update, the midsole and outsole are the same. In this case, that’s not a bad thing. With the Torin 4 Plush, I liked the Quantic midsole. It’s super cushioned and rebounds well. The outsole (which Altra calls Footpod Technology), is covered in full-blown rubber to grip any surface and mapped to the bones and tendons in the foot to help with flex and natural movements. That said, this model of the Torin is not for everyone. Altra has revamped the midsole of the Torin 4.0, and in so doing they have removed a small amount (~2mm) of cushioning. I have to begin by saying that the Torin 5 was so comfortable that I sometimes forgot that I was wearing a running shoe. The supple sidewall construction really needs no adaptation period. The wonderful aeration of the upper material and the great cushion of the sole only adds to that comfort.

Altra Torin 4.5 Plush Review | Cushioned Zero Drop Road

The tongue has been toned down and is a good middle ground between being overly padded or a thin nothing. The heel collar is smooth and padded perfectly. With only the upper being updated, I’m impressed by the weight of these. Last year, my Torin 4.0 Plush weighed 10.7 oz while this year’s 4.5 Plush weighs 9.6 oz. Some other companies should take note on how to cut weight without sacrificing comfort. JARRETT: As I write this, I realize that I have very little to complain about with the Torin 4.5 Plush. Yeah, there should have been a second eyelet for lacing and Altra seems to be moving in the direction of slimmer profiles, but the ounce of weight loss is great, the upper feels good, and the midsole and outsole didn’t need much changing. But there used to be. Like, last year, when you had the Altra Torin 4.0 and the Altra Torin 4.0 Plush. But not the year before that. Except wait, there were also two versions that year– the Torin 3.5 Knit and the Torin 3.5 Mesh. JARRETT: The new knit upper is a nice improvement. It’s softer, has more give, and is more breathable. I wasn’t able to verify the last bit as it has been 95 degrees with 5000% humidity in Maryland the past month. *Fall, if you’re listening, please come early!*I’ve run in Torins before, but never would have said that I was a big Torin fan. This shoe changes that for me—I’m a fan of the Altra Torin 4.0! Altra achieved that soft feel with its Quantic midsole. The foam midsole is squishy beneath your feet, and it delivers a consistent softness from heel to toe, which makes transitions smooth and easy. Thanks for clearing up the that the Torin 4.0 (non-plush) is gone and only one Torin model exists now, and that’s the Torin 4.5 Plush. UGH!
