About this deal

The F 14 first deployed in 1974 with the U.S. Navy aboard USS Enterprise, replacing the F-4 Phantom II and was retired from the active U.S. Navy fleet on 22 September 2006, having been replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. The initial and most numerous version was the F-14A. Later in 1987, the Tomcat received major upgrades. The original engines have been replaced and a radar warning receiver has been added. At first, the upgrade was simply called F-14A+, and later it was renamed F-14B. Lindsey, Robert (27 May 1986). "Top Gun: Ingenious Dogfights". The New York Times. There’s another downside – the FineMold kits are not as widely available in the US as those from Academy or GWH.Academy’s new F-14A in 1/72 hit the market in 2019 and it is considered one of the best 1/72 F-14s ever released. The E-flite® F-14 Tomcat Twin 40mm EDF is scaled to be practical for more pilots to afford and fly. Functional variable-sweep wings deliver an authentic experience while AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies make it easier to fly than any other Tomcat model yet! Being first released in 2016, Tamiya’s family of F-14 model kits is not old at all. Yet, it has already attained almost a legendary status among the model-building community. Many of those who have this kit consider it possibly the best model kit ever produced. While I am not a Tamiya fanboy, this kit is one of my favorite kits. Normally, I don’t build the same kit twice, but this build was such a pleasure that I had to buy and build another one. Spangenberg, George. The hardpoints between nacelles include two on centerline plus four others next to nacelles. Points between nacelles can only carry a maximum of four missiles at one time. Each wing glove can carry one large pylon for larger missiles, with one rail on the outboard side of the pylon for a Sidewinder. McDonnell Douglas and Grumman were selected as finalists in December 1968. Grumman was selected for the contract award in January 1969. [15] Grumman's design reused the TF30 engines from the F-111B, though the Navy planned on replacing them with the Pratt & Whitney F401-400 engines under development for the Navy, along with the related Pratt & Whitney F100 for the USAF. [16] Though lighter than the F-111B, it was still the largest and heaviest U.S. fighter to fly from an aircraft carrier, a consequence of the requirement to carry the large AWG-9 radar and AIM-54 Phoenix missiles (from the F-111B) and an internal fuel load of 16,000lb (7,300kg). [17]

HobbyBoss’ F-14 family of 1/48 kits is the oldest one of the modern trio and is widely considered the worst one but that does not mean it is a bad kit. It is actually a very good kit and it is miles ahead of the old F-14 kits by Revell, Academy, Italeri, and possibly even Hasegawa.
