Well I am totally wrung out after just finishing this book, the third by C L Taylor and in my opinion her best so far. It inspired such a mixture of emotions in me and made me realise how truly talented you have to be to even attempt a psychological suspense of this calibre! I seem to have been waiting for such a long time to get my hands on a copy of The Missing but I have to say it was worth every second. It was stunning! As true as what Statistician Gertrude Mary Cox said, it is not the world we live in. Working with data means working with missing data. To be a great analyst you need to know how to deal with missing values. The name of the book has created a lot of confusion because no one seems to have a solid understanding of who actually named the book 2 Ezra. On special occasions, Goblins will indulge in an item called ' void mayonnaise'... considered perhaps the finest delicacy in all Goblin cuisine. This book is more than just a mystery. The disappearance of Billy is a catalyst really for a character driven study into the secrets and lies in a modern family. Nowadays families aren't simple anymore, they are extended due to marriage breakdowns, step families and we now have our children live at home for much longer periods as well. Claire is a typical mum of her generation, juggling work, teenagers, parents and friendships as well as making time for a marriage to work...it's tough out there!! As a mum who has been through those teenage years, I understood totally where Claire was coming from. Tobit eventually goes blind and is forced to send his son, Tobias, on a journey with the angel Raphael disguised as a human. This is when Tobias meets Sarah who is possessed by a demon, but Raphael is able to intervene and expel the demon allowing Tobias and Sarah to marry. A difficult subject matter, but written superbly. Plot, characters, all very strong and very well researched. I've always loved Cally's writing, but this sets the mark.
