About this deal

From Rupi Kaur, the bestselling author of M ilk and Honey, comes her long-awaited second collection of poetry. Illustrated by Kaur, The Sun and Her Flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming. It is a celebration of love in all its forms. So happy to read this one holding a physical copy in my favourite bookstore with two cups of cuppacino ✨ Lastly, another thing I wasn’t a huge fan of is none of her poems use punctuation. She had some longer poems unlike anything she had in m&h, but most of those just employed really long-winded run-on sentences and I wasn’t a huge fan of that style. Because of that, it was hard to tell sometimes when one poem ended and another begun because none were punctuated, some didn’t have titles, some were just one sentence, etc. Maybe Cinderella’s stepmother had good reason to be such a bitter b*tch, maybe Sleeping Beauty wasn’t waiting for a prince to come save her. Rupi Kaur is the bestselling poet of milk and honeyand the sun and her flowers. Her poems are about love, family, heartbreak, racism, sexism, and more. She’s insanely quotable, managing to bring forth powerful emotion in simple language. I love all the words she writes, but here are 35 of my favourite Rupi Kaur quotes, including milk and honeyquotes! I'll never grow tired of reading Kaur's passionate words. And I hope there's more and more to wait for in the future, regarding her poetry. I hear a thousand kind words about me and it makes no difference yet I hear one insult and all confidence shatters - focusing on the negative.” If you think you’re not a “poetry person”, these books could change that. Here are 10 books to read if you loved milk and honey by Rupi Kaur. the princess saves herself in this one is the most similar to milk and honey as it draws on her work in terms of style, content and even cover art. It’s even published by the same people! Something to note though is thatthe target audience of this book seems to be considerably younger than that of Rupi Kaur, which does change the tone.

And finally

She was a phenomenal woman(#poetrypuns), part of the Civil Rights Movement in the XYZs and worked with Martin Luther King Junior and Malcolm X. Themes in Angelou’s poetry include abuse, isolation, feminism, racism and more. Every so often, a book comes along that seems to have a life of its own, that is passed lovingly from one reader to another with recommendations that insist, "You must read this". Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey is one such book’ Red Magazine

Charly Cox is a very young author, only twenty-two when this was published, but she was named as one of ELLE magazine’s 20 power players to watch out for in 2018 so watch this space.my heart aches for sisters more than anything/it aches for women helping women/like flowers ache for spring” It’s one of those topics where whatever you say will be criticised and Shraya’s observations will no doubt resonate with white readers. I think we owe Rupi Kaur a lot for making poetry accessible to mainstream readers, young readers in particular, with her debut collection, milk & honey. Let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of Rupi Kaur's milk and honey; HOWEVER, being the forgiving person that I am, I have decided to give her work a second chance.

The main theme of this collection is female empowerment and it’s an important read for those who have ever wanted to rewrite their own story or be something different from what everyone expects. This is akin to reading a teenager’s journal. Not that it’s bad, but rather a bit cliche and young. Also, the amount of time it took me to correct the computer and remove punctuation and add breaks in sentences was frustrating... and I’m pretty sure it still didn’t put my quotes as they appear in the book! (That is an explanation point for emphasis.) The range of emotions are all felt ... sadness, anger, loss, grief, pride, guilt, fear, nervousness, shame, joy, surprise, love .... The fact that Rupi Kaur has taken up the reins from Angelou in a modern age and is still shouting about these issues today tells a sad story about the “progress” that has been made over the past few decades.
