About this deal

We'll start the experience off with a taste of the award winning Tobermory Hebridean Gin, followed by a neat dram of our limited Tobermory Mountain Gin and a neat dram of our new distillery exclusive Tobermory Coast Gin. The experience will end on a classic Tobermory gin serve which you'll create yourself.

After 120 years of distilling whisky, Benromach Distillery in Speyside turned their hand to gin in July 2018. Taking its name and bottle design from the distinctive doors on the distillery, it makes for a striking red bottle. Working with specialist spirits branding agency, Stranger & Stranger, the ‘Social Distillery’ has created something which is the envy of many. They wanted to produce something which depicts the truly stunning scenery found on the island – and what a job they’ve done!

Tobermory on the Scottish Hebridean island of Mull must be one of the prettiest towns in Scotland. How could its gin not taste good? On the southwestern tip of England lies Cornwall, a region that’s fast becoming famed for its gins. Land of Saints takes its name from the fact that Cornwall is home to 69 saints. We see it time and again; a new gin launches with a stunning bottle and it helps catapult it to the top of our “must-have” list. In the crowded market, a beautiful bottle is now almost essential in cutting through. This unisex Tobermory whisky hoodie in white with ‘athletic’ style writing is available in sizes SMALL to XXL. Sweatshirt material and fluffy on the inside, this is a perfectly cosy jumper! Tarquin’s Gin has always had a really pretty bottle. With its signature wax finish, it’s one that stood out. In August 2018, to mark the 5th anniversary, the bottle went to a whole new level.

Despite the traditional approach to their flavour, there’s more than a touch of the contemporary to the bottle design of Brentingby Gin. Its copper bottle is a nod to Ayanda, the still personally designed and built by founder/distiller Bruce Midgely. The idea to produce a gin came about when the distillery had the opportunity to buy a 60-litre 1950s copper still from South Africa. They shipped it all the way to Mull, refurbished and installed it, and called it Wee Betty. (Betty’s a popular name for Scottish gin stills, as The Botanist from Islay is made in Ugly Betty.) Made with real gold in the ink to get the look they really wanted, everything about it looks premium and in line with their price point and positioning in the market.

3. Porcelain GIN

Originally launched in 2014, The Lakes Gin transformed with this stunning rebrand in 2019. Working with Glasgow-based creative agency, D8, the centrepiece of the design is the quatrefoil, an ancient Celtic symbol, rooted in the Lake District’s heritage. Everything about 44°N Gin exudes luxury. Hailing from Grasse in the French Riviera, the town is synonymous with perfumery. The bottle is therefore reminiscent of the perfumer’s workshop while capturing the translucence of the Mediterranean Sea. Initial sweet notes of lavender and candied citrus are followed by a herbaceous bouquet and a light coriander spice Launched in March 2018, The Nodding Donkey Distillery Company, have created a stunning bottle with their Jarrold’s Gin. Not bespoke in shape, but the label with its stained-glass window-like effect is striking.

Standing in a bottle shop, I was instantly drawn to Silent Pool. I’d never tasted it but such was the beauty of the bottle, I was desperate to try it. The brand takes its name from the legendary haunted Silent Pool in Albury, England, where their distillery sits. Situated in the north west coast of Scotland, sits the small village of Ullapool, the home of Highland Liquor Company. Their flagship product, takes its name after the original settlement on which the village now stands, with a croft being the Scottish word for a small farm.Over 220 years later, and they’ve decided to add a gin to their range. There are 13 botanicals that go into the Hebridean Gin and these include juniper, tea, heather, elderflower, and sweet orange peel, which are fresh from the island if they grow there. There’s also an intriguing addition to both make the gin different and to connect it with their whisky heritage, as they add a drop or two of spirit from the whisky stills into the gin. As Wee Betty is a bit on the small side, there’s going to be limited production of the gin initially, but it will be ramped up as the distillery is about to install a second dedicated gin still in a new stillhouse. Being from Glasgow, I obviously have a soft spot for Glaswegin! The distinct square bottle is incredibly well thought out, utilising its shape to accentuate the play on words (a Glaswegian being a resident of the city of Glasgow).

Tobermory Distillery, known for their Tobermory and Ledaig Single Malt’s, has made its own original gin. Ensuring a true taste of the island is hugely important to the blend, as is demonstrated with the inclusion of a pinch of Hebridean tea, grown by a local on Mull. Read More Related Articles On the nose the juniper isn’t too powerful, and is balanced by a sweetness, perhaps from the elderflower. There are citrus aromas too, and a hint of maltiness from the whisky. It’s certainly unique. It was especially important for them to create something truly original and unique, like their island, so when the opportunity arose to secure a redundant John Dore & Co copper still from South Africa, the time felt right. Perhaps more famous for their wines, Chapel Down also has a strong base of spirits fans from their gins and vodka.
