A new tool in New Horizons, you can use a wand to transform into outfits! Simply hold the wand and press A to view your registered outfits, and select one to transform into! Online play is only available between players on your Nintendo Switch friend list OR players that you have shared a Dodo Code with. Anyone with the Dodo Code can visit your island. This is the only way to "invite" people you are not Nintendo Switch friends with. Select via online play (if they're in the same room as you, with their own Switches and own copies of ACNH you could select local). Up to eight players with their own Nintendo Switch console and a copy of the software can play together on an island via online or local multiplayer.

The axe is used to gather materials such as wood, softwood, and hardwood from trees. While holding an axe, press A to chop a tree in front of you. Dig up buried items on the ground like fossils or mushrooms using a shovel. While holding a shovel, press A to dig up a hole.

Local multiplayer requires one compatible controller per player. Additional controllers (sold separately) may be required. Up to 8 players registered as users on a Nintendo Switch console can live on one shared island, and up to four residents of one island can play simultaneously on one console. Please note: only one island can exist per Nintendo Switch console, irrespective of the number of users registered to or copies of the game used on one console. One Nintendo Switch and one copy of the game is required for each unique island. When you see a fish shadow in rivers or the sea, hold your fishing rod, and press A in front of the water to cast a line. Because it's not split-screen the followers will automatically follow the leader, popping into the screen if they straggle behind.

You cannot add Best Friends until you've played with them at least once so we'll start with how to play online. There's no way to send a direct invite to your Nintendo Switch friends. Instead you're "opening the gates" to your island. They don't get a notification about this but you do have some in-game messaging options (we'll discuss that in a bit).Up to 8 players can live on one island; 4 players living on the same island can play together - at the same time - on a single system (couch co-op style). Here's how to do it. If a player who shares an island with others opens the NookPhone and accesses the Call Resident app, they will call all of the other available residents to them for Party Play. In this mode, one person functions as the leader and the remaining players are followers. This means that everyone follows the leader around, but when the leader stops, everyone can engage in the activities in that area. You can also change who the leader is at any point in time if one of you wants a turn at it.
