En general no me considero un lector de manga. Seguir las millones de series y reediciones que salen cada poco me da cierta pereza. Sin embargo, hay contadas excepciones. Una de ellas es Inio Asano. Con el que ya he tenido más de un encuentro breve satisfactorio.

Punpun asks his uncle about getting to Kagoshima, and is told that plane or train is expensive and it's too far to walk. Meanwhile, Seki tries to coerce his drunk, broke dad into reopening their lunch store. Shimizu's mother sends him on an errand. On the way out, he meets the God of Poop and complains that the kamemeha he taught him did not work. Seki catches Shimi being weird, and when Shimi tells him he just spoke with the God of Poop, Seki punches him. Seki sees Mrs. Shimizu's wallet and asks to borrow some cash, only to chide Shimi for actually agreeing. Punpun runs into them. Harumi and Komatsu, waiting for Punpun, entertain the idea of searching for the money in the abandoned miso factory, and Seki appears, with Punpun and Shimi, and offers to show them where the factory is just to prove that the tape was a prank and there's no such thing as free money. The moments in Punpun’s life (a fair mix of awkward and humorous experiences) are heightened by Asano’s illustrations. His style shows such attention to detail that the final result is simply breathtaking. I adore the way he imbeds the surreal, birdlike personifications of Punpun and his family within a world that is much more true to life. The effect goes a long way towards supporting his feelings of being both and outsider and a dreamer. Overall, “Goodnight Punpun” is a game changer. I have the utmost respect for Asano as a mangaka after reading this, because it couldn’t have been easy to create. It takes a certain amount of openness and confidence in yourself to even consider breaking away from industry standards in general. To boldly lay out all those tender and perplexing things that we often goes through as we age brings that challenge to a whole new level of bravery. Inio Asano is pushing the boundaries of what manga can and should be, and for that, I salute him.Punpun and Aiko's relationship and injuries worsen more and more as they both display suicidal behavior. After Punpun comes close to killing a stranger for no real reason, the duo arrives in Kagoshima and decide to go to the nearby island Tanegashima. Once there, after an innocent evening spent having fun, Punpun decides to strangle Aiko to death with a rope before killing himself, but she talks him out of it, while also confessing that she is in fact the one who killed her mother, having stabbed her to death after noticing that she was still alive after her fight with Punpun. Meanwhile, Sachi keeps on searching Punpun by meeting with his friends and family. El inicio de Buenas noches, Punpun es, como el resto de la obra, una genialidad. Asano configura a Punpun con todas las aristas que perfilan a un niño, desde el físico hasta la psicología. La idea de diseñar al protagonista con una forma tan simple como la de una especie de pollo antropomorfizado sigue fascinándome a día de hoy: no solo es una hoja en blanco sobre la que resulta sencillo proyectarse como lector; también es una maravillosa alegoría sobre el crecimiento del personaje, que todavía está lejos de alcanzar su madurez. Que el símbolo se refuerce con esa forma que recuerda a las crías de pájaro resulta todavía más astuto. This book was... not what I was expecting. I've heard so so many good things about this series, but I was pretty disappointed. I will keep reading it to see if it gets better, but so far I'm not a huge fan. Silverman, Rebecca. The absolute best aspect of Goodnight Punpun is its fantastic, rich character work. Inio Asano is a master craftsman when it comes to his characters, making them all feel like living, breathing three-dimensional human beings. Punpun himself is the most developed of everyone in the story so far and is also easily the most memorable. He’s never shown talking — instead, Asano lets odd bits of narration express what he’s thinking or fits of body language (like nodding and shivering). The character feels relatable very early on, with him suffering from fears, worries, and problems a lot of us have had in our past: trouble at home, freaking out about changes with one’s body, experiencing love for the first time, worrying about letting people down, trying to act tough around friends despite internal problems and worries, and wondering what exactly sex is. I find a bunch of these things, personally at least, rather relatable to things from my past or things my friends brought up in grade school.

Although it is both of those things, it's also a bit of a fantasy, albeit a fairly mundane one. Characters [ edit ] Punpun Onodera ( 小野寺 プンプン, Onodera Punpun) / Punpun Punyama ( プン山 プンプン, Punyama Punpun) A young boy who is most often depicted as a bird, although he is also shown in other forms as his character evolves. I can write an entire essay, but it won’t be enough for me to describe how this manga changed the little fourteen year old me, and how close I keep it to my heart even now. Mortified, Aiko takes off running, and Punpun runs after her. A bad runner, he only catches up when Aiko is hit by a bicycle and falls over. When she stands up, she yells at Punpun for lying to her about where he lived. She didn't want any of her new classmates to know about her mother's cult involvement, lest they think her a freak like at her old school. Punpun swears he doesn't think badly of her. Aiko says she will walk to Kagoshima to live with her rich, sane doctor uncle. This is a manga that made me think, but most importantly, it made the my cold, empty heart feel. Yes, it made me ponder about adolescence, about youth, it made me think about identity and the complexity of people, but it made me feel so intensely for the protagonist and the characters surrounding him. I was frustrated with Punpun. His decisions and choices in life are unethical, and utterly terrible at times, but there were moments I understood these flaws made him so very pitiful, and so very human. A poignant reminder that I, along with everyone else in the world, could be exactly like Punpun at our lowest point in life. Punpun is about an innocent pigeon boy (in a class of human students) learning about the bees and the birds, life, and whatever else there is to know. How he remained so innocent in this world is anybody's guess. Recommended to pretty much everybody who's looking for a moving, first-class coming of age story. As long as you don't mind a side of straight-up weird to go along with it. I'm a lazy man, so I'm just going to review the series as a whole, rather than try and untangle where the plot threads landed in each book. I think it's a series that should be read start to finish anyway.Sachi spots Punpun while he is out searching and he goes to her house again. There, he opens up to her about his issues and Sachi accuses him of not wanting to actually find Aiko. After she pushes him, Punpun writes her a draft manuscript which she finds unsatisfactory. Sachi confides in Punpun that she used to be unconfident like him too, getting cosmetic surgery, so she has to keep pressuring him to try. Punpun resolves to keep working on the story and they work towards a final draft by the end of summer. Shishido offers to give Punpun a job once he gets a real estate license. After a misunderstanding, Punpun reveals to Sachi that he loves her, the two have sex and they start growing closer. I cant find a way to describe it, but its so uncomfortably real, in the sense that nothings perfect; which i love. punpun experienced his first love at a very young age. i dont think it's true love per se, but he felt it was something. the writer was able to convey how that feels like for someone as young as punpun and how confusion will start to settle in as well as he gets older. Suddenly, Punpun understood. "That's it. I'll study outer space. I'll get real smart and be a space scientist. Then I'll make it so mankind can coloinize the stars! That seems like a really cool thing to do. After that... just maybe... Aiko will actually fall in love with me!!"Asano described the young Punpun as a fundamentalist, which leads to his regrets and dislike of gray areas later. Asano also ascribed these characteristics to the other characters: "The main characters in Punpun always remain children in the way their purity leads them to fail and become social misfits." At end of the manga, Asano was originally going to make Punpun die while saving a child of a friend, but he felt that it was too "clean" of an ending. He continued the theme of nothing going right for Punpun by making him live and by denying Punpun solitude after Aiko's death by pairing him up with Sachi. In the final chapter, Punpun's experiences are contrasted with those of his childhood friend Harumi to show Punpun from the perspective of a normal person. Harumi sees Punpun surrounded by friends, but in reality nothing went right for him, further emphasizing the theme of failure. [4]
