About this deal

Step into the world of Katie Fforde where love, romance and the happiest of happy endings are just around the corner. The new novel by the number one bestselling author and queen of feel-good romance. Will their differences be a recipe for disaster? After all, the course of true love never did run smooth... Meg goes to help her mother, Louise, at the hotel. It follows the ups and downs that running a country hotel entails. They desperately want to improve the hotel by adding en-suite bathrooms and improving the decoration. The owner of the hotel has recently passed away and the son’s of the owner are trying to find a mysterious third beneficiary of the hotel. Justin is a moody, handsome chef who happens to be the son of one of the sons. This really is a problem for me because it could have been mentioned that it was Book 3 in a series, even though it could and should be a standalone story – and the story does stand up very well by itself. Or it would if it didn't fall down on the number of characters. Everything is going rather well, with the Nightingale Woods' team pulling together like a little family, until the arrival of Andrew's son Justin, who has very firm ideas about what should be happening at the hotel while his father is away. Justin has divided loyalties, and he sees little prospect of a future for Nightingale Woods, but Meg has fallen in love with this little corner of rural heaven. She is sure that this could be just the place for guests who would appreciate its charms, if only a few careful improvements could be arranged. This might be more of a challenge than Meg anticipated, but she is not ready to give up the fight...

Katie Fforde - Fantastic Fiction One Enchanted Evening by Katie Fforde - Fantastic Fiction

The hotel is charming, a place I'd love to stay at with its welcoming and homely feel and beautiful location. Meg goes to France for a while too and I enjoyed her time working in a restaurant there. But what really sold this book to me was the romance, the spark between Meg and Justin, and the way their relationship develops throughout the book made my heart sing. It was just so sweet and lovely to watch their burgeoning feelings for each other grow. Without a doubt, Meg is definitely the one who was destined for a future in food. Creating beautiful dishes at the cookery school, she also appeared in A Wedding in Provence with a showstopper cake that proved to be far superior to anything that a local pâtissier could produce. One Enchanted evening is everything you need in a novel when the weather outside demands you snuggle under a blanket with a good book.' This is the first time I've ever read anything by Katie Fforde, although I am of course familiar with the name and the kind of books she writes.

First of all, thank you to Net Galley and the publishers, Random House, for an advanced copy of this book. The last few chapters seemed a bit unedited. They chopped around with oddments of text that I think should have gone somewhere else, and they felt a bit rushed. But my biggest bugbear was the number of characters in the story, and particularly when another boatload turned up for the finale/closing image. Featuring the story of thirty-five year old Polly Cameron, it tells of how she’s not looking for a relationship with a strong and independent mindset. Seemingly happy with life whilst somewhat world-weary, she’s keen to do things on her own whilst not needing others for company in the process. Residing in a small Gloucestershire town not unlike that of the author, she has her cat for company whilst taking an active part in her local community whilst working at a cafe. This all leads to both her family and friends attempting to set her up with various men in a number of different and increasingly elaborate ways, all efforts which she constantly attempts to fend off. Not wanting to complicate her life anymore, she wants to keep herself busy without relying on others for any help or assistance, instead doing things alone. That’s when a man enters her life to help her reevaluate things and maybe change her mind on what she previously thought to be the case. Will she change her mind and manage to settle down? Can she ever truly be happy? What will become of Polly Cameron as she finds herself living dangerously? A French Affair

I have read a couple of Katie Fforde books before and really enjoyed them and this one didn’t disappoint either. A beautiful setting at Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset, one of my favourite places. The story is set in the 1960’s and followed Meg’s story.Meg had my heart from Chapter One. The world is in the midst of social change where women fought for equal rights and pay, and our Meg is a girl with a plan. She is doing all she can to make her dreams of becoming a professional cook a reality. Not easy in a male dominated world. Yet, woe betide anyone who gets in her way…

If you love feel good romances and you haven’t read any of Katie’s books yet then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? She’s a national treasure at this point. We love Katie. I could go on and on about how great she is so please just go and grab some of her books so you can love her writing too.Marrying her husband Desmond Fforde, the cousin of famous writer Jasper Fforde, in 1972, she then had three children; Briony, Francis and Guy. It was only after her third child was born that she begun her career as a writer, whilst using her married name to write under. Living in Stroud in Gloucestershire, she takes an active part in the local community where she sings in the choir there, whilst undertaking a variety of other activities.
