About this deal

You can swap out brown sugar for white sugar if you prefer, or even honey or molasses. Regardless of which way you go, this is a dessert your family will be talking about for decades. Each of the 20 different rice Krispie treat recipes that we tried was good. I mean, seriously what could be bad about a rice crispy treat?

When using salted butter you don't taste the salt, it just makes the treats taste richer and more flavorful. Jumbo marshmallows: Be sure you are using jumbo marshmallows, also called roaster marshmallows. See the picture above for reference. The flavor will be slightly different, but each one of these alternatives is still sweet enough to mimic the original recipe. If you don’t have sea salt, you can use Himalayan pink salt as an alternative. Just be sure to use this sparingly. No! We tried that. The salt did not disperse evenly throughout the treats and made the treats taste salty. Because let’s be real..marshmallows are hard to measure. One cup of minis to you might be an entirely different thing to me…there’s just so much airspace, you know? You certainly can’t sub in Fluff everywhere you need a melted marshmallow…the consistency is different. We found that every one of the 20 different taste testers preferred a Rice Krispie Treat made with salted butter. You can freeze the treats. Wrap them well, and freeze for up to 3 months. To thaw, bring them to room temperature and let them sit, wrapped, for a few hours. Then unwrap and enjoy.

Butter: I used unsalted butter, but you can also use salted if your prefer a little salt in your recipe.Inside a heat-safe bowl (you could use the pot of your stand mixer if you own one), beat the whites together with the corn syrup, sugar, and water for one minute until everything is combined. Make sure the inside of the bowl where you are mixing is totally dry before adding the ingredients. Sliced almonds are the secret ingredient in this dish, but you can always use almond flour if you don’t have almonds. The flavor difference between salted and unsalted butter is quite significant so we definitely recommend you use salted butter in your crispy treat recipe. If your frosting is too thin, you can add additional powdered sugar. Keep adding the sugar until you have the consistency you’re looking for.
