About this deal

There’s a bounty of apps with the likes of Apple TV, Sky Store and Twitch; Hulu, HBO Max and Sling TV for US customers; and with Freeview Play, the UK catch-up and on-demand apps are available. LG Channels has nearly 200 free-to-watch channels to stream, while LIVENow – exclusive to LG TVs – features access to live music concerts and events. Comparison based on internal LG testing of LG OLED TV Full White measurements, excluding the OLED evo series. Brightness Booster improvements do not apply to 48/42C2. The Magic remote carries over from 2021 and feels less fiddly to use, the cursor less prone to flying across the screen. It has hotkeys for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Rakuten, as well as shortcuts for Alexa and Google digital assistants.

As with the new LG G2 OLED, the C2 model comes with the company’s webOS smart TV platform - and now thanks to a new naming convention that’s based on its year of release, it’s now referred to as webOS 22 (the previous version was called webOS 6.0). That said, the C2 is still a sonic upgrade on last year’s LG OLEDs, providing a more authentic sound with better projected voices. It’s generally smoother and cleaner but with more punch and dynamism than before, and there’s more weight, too, but with convincing integration with the rest of the delivery rather than a lump of bass that emerges from nowhere as it does with many TVs. The Home Dashboard is where you can manage the TV’s various inputs, wireless connections (such as AirPlay 2) or connect to IoT (Internet of Things) devices around the home. The menu system remains easy to navigate, with fewer sections to wade through, and fewer nestled menus. The Multi View, which I hadn’t noticed before, allows for two screens to be viewed at once for any keen multitaskers. FeaturesGamers, on the other hand, will appreciate the inclusion of FreeSync, G-Sync and standard VRR right out of the box. With a native 120Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1, PS5 and Xbox Series X owners can get the maximum resolution and frame rate from their new hardware, while high-end PC owners will have a solid option should they decide to connect their PC to their TV via HDMI. Also appreciated is the new "Prevent Input Delay" setting that can be set to boost for an incredibly low 1.5ms delay.

The dialogue is understandable enough in this mode, but the Clear Voice Pro setting enhances the spoken word even further - handy if you sometimes struggle to hear mumbling actors. The Sports Mode has a rather tinny quality, while the Music mode is more naturalistic, with no huge emphasis on any frequency band. You also have Cinema, Game Optimization, and Standard listening modes to choose from, so you should be able to find an audio profile you like. Another year, another LG C-series OLED hits the market. But where the models from the past couple of years offered only slight but beneficial improvements on the established formula, the 2022 iteration has the potential of a bigger step forward for LG’s mid-range OLED. The C2 range includes 42in, 48in, 55in, 65in, 77in and 83in screen sizes, making this an ideal choice for anyone looking for an OLED that can be used as a smaller gaming monitor, an all-purpose family TV or a big-screen home cinema. Like the Cinema mode for Dolby Vision, this warmer picture made skin tones look very natural, adding a slight yellow tinge that felt very lifelike. As we watched the scene in which Dr Octopus and Spider-Man duke it out in the bank, the colors looked accurate and the contrast levels were well balanced.

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Most importantly, webOS 22 supports every streaming service you’re ever likely to need, complete with 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos where the services and content carry them.Subtitles and audio description information displayed on electronic programme guide programme banner The only downside to choosing one of LG OLED’s smaller OLEDs, according to LG’s Tim Alessi, is that there's no major gains in brightness vs. non-Evo models, due to the pixel pitch. You’re still getting the 120Hz OLED panel and all the design advantages we’ve talked about above, but you won’t see some of the advantages in performance that we’ll talk about below. These differences are most pronounced in the Dolby Vision Bright mode, which is the one to use if there’s ambient light in the room or if you simply appreciate the punchier approach (which we do), but the C2 is also the better TV when the even truer Dolby Vision Dark preset is selected, maintaining the authenticity of the image while revealing more shadow detail and providing brighter highlights. Very occasionally it’s possible to see that a tiny bit of fine detail and subtle shading is being washed out by the C2 in the very brightest parts of the image (some clouds for example) but this is otherwise all gain and no pain. As a whole, it’s a noticeably more dynamic and enticing image. With a Blu-ray of Thor: The Dark World, it’s as if I’m watching a 4K version of the film. No noise, no blurriness or jagged edges; just terrific levels of fine detail in costumes and faces, natural colours, a clean-looking image, and impressive levels of sharpness.
