About this deal

This...is...absolutely...BEAUTIFUL! This is definitely a woman's perfume, not a girls perfume, at all! This is super sexy and sophisticated! This reminds me of the strong business women of the 80’s. With their designer outfits, shoulder pads, big hair, brightly coloured makeup and a real “I am woman, hear me roar” attitude when they stride down the halls of a workplace, as you hear their high-healed stilettos crash like the sound of glass breaking with each step as a reminder that they can put you in your place, even if you’re a man and fire you on the spot, so watch what you say and do...as they fill the air with RED each time they rush by! So, it was a blind buy. I wanted to try something with cherry and since it is an edt and it was very affordable I figured it was time I tried something different. It is initially fruity and cherry dominant and dries down to a tonka-cherry situation. It reminds me of CH VGG base +cherry minus the rose but in a lighter way if that makes any sense. It's the tonka bean I believe.

I also have to say my 14 year daughter likes it too!!!! Usually she likes the sweet scents that are out there, but she surprises me now and then: she loves Boucheron (original) and now this :) Whoa, 80's powerhouse indeed! Crimped hair, bright makeup and stone washed jeans! Actually, this is more the bitchin feathered hair, tight fitting dresses with big shoulder pads (think Dynasty, i.e. Joan Collins). I was given "Red" as a gift when the scent was new... so, I must have been about 15 years old. yes, this one is probably a bit much for a 15-year-old, but I was a 15-year-old who successfully wore Poison, almost every day, taking a "break" with Tabu... I remember the gifter admitting that she had chosen it for me because I have red hair. i had a hard time at initial spray as it's really deep (probably those boozey plum and exotic/citrus accords), but it does soften up after a while and the rose and mahogany really ground everything together. i'm not the best at identifying flowers so the jasmine & freesia are sorta out the picture, nonetheless it's a beautiful concotion! super versatile too, as i've worn it both during winter and spring (but let me just say, cold temperatures really make it blossom into something regal). Enchanting... I'm wearing this to bed on a warm summer night and this smells enchanting. The blast of the juiciest plum and blood orange combo you could think of in the opening followed by rose and praline- it all comes together so wonderfully to form a sweet (but not cloying), alluring, feminine and interesting fragrance.Right after spraying, Red is way too sythetic smelling on my skin, and it tends to smell quite a long like this when smelling up close the wrists. However, thenice fragrance cloud it creates around me is beautiful with the above mentioned slightly chypre-like character and oriental spices, fruits and flowers. It comes close to being too cloyingly sweet for but finally the notes balace out nicely. It is a rich floral chypre---I don't get the cherry note that some people are talking about. It's a complex fragrance that starts boozy then mellows to a nice mix of dirty mossy roses and woods. It smells best when worn on the skin that is covered by clothing---that way it sort of gets heated and you get varying facets of it. with exposed skin, like the arms or wrists, it goes straight up cigar and fireplace. I experience the same thing with Chanel Cristalle, which after years of study have discovered that the best place to put it is on the nape and at the tummy.

Opens with an uplifting candy cherry note, not too sweet. After an hour, the projection is only a few inches off my skin. After 3-4 hours, it becomes a faint skin scent. The cherry note lasts for the first 3 hours on my skin. The drydown is delicate florals and vanilla. Somewhere in the Mediterranean or Far East. An ageless and beautiful, veiled woman wrapped in wine red silk and cashmere walks thru the center of a spice market in the cool of dusk. Dark smoldering eyes filled with secrets and wisdom...I don’t have Armani Si but i have its supposed dupe, In Woman by La Rive. In Woman smells similar to Always Red too but its the less sweet version. All of them are cheap awesome scents! Worth a blind buy if you adore Si. But Always Red is tops my fave amongst the three. Such a lovely intoxicating and addicting scent. It’s sort of a dark, quiet beauty that’s compelling in a confident way, the one with something deep and interesting to say but in no hurry to share it; the introverted guest walking along cement form promenades in the moonlight, while everyone else is dancing the night away in the ballroom.

Let me give you an advice: do NOT blind buy this one! The way this perfume expressed itself seems very reliant on skin chemistry. For a moment it started to smell like the ink in those scented pens/markers we had in the 80s/90s. Gross (for perfume), but it's changing again and I am making out the florals, especially the jasmine - but not in an overpowering way.I definitely recommend this scent only if you can handle a strongish fragrance...definitely not for the faint of heart. The dry down is still spectacular and I have to say, on me, it's soft and still the holds the same smell....I don't smell fluctuations in the quality or the notes at all - at least on me. Now, I never did wear RED that often, in fact, I probably could count on one hand, the number of times I reached for her and gave her a go in the first 6 months that I had her. She was the STRONGEST and LOUDEST perfume that I had EVER smelled at that point in my life (and I came of age in the ‘80’s people..so that’s sayin’ somethin’! LOL). Another drugstore gem, sold cheap enough to overspray if desired (but hardly necessary). Almost too agreeable to be a love for me, I don't find it defined or controversial enough when the elements I enjoy in it are amplified and exemplified in other scents.
