About this deal

Carol leaves the room upset and demands that they ask for a room change since the room reeked of weed. Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review. I agree with other readers that the first part was absolutely excellent of a novel, perhaps better than the rest, but I stand by my high rating as a whole because that second part of the book focuses on the actual unravel/undoing of the life of the parents. She is then shown waking up with Hardin staring down at her, caressing her face and asking what she is dreaming about…she wakes up and realizes that was a dream. Their relationship is stretched to breaking point at a time when they should be there for one other.

In some ways, reading a book which follows one storyline that moves ahead in time feels preferable to following two divergent stories, however thought provoking.

The next scene shows them driving through various city settings until they get to her new University.

As they cannot decide, the courts must step in and make a decision that is in their son's best interest. This book reminded me so much about Charlie Gard, a young boy from England, whose parents fought to keep their young son alive so that he could get treatment in America. Carol, Noah, and Tessa make their way through the crowded dorm halls looking for her new room, B-22.

Unlike what happened to the author, the fictional couple in this novel don’t agree on how to manage and treat their son’s illness so the courts must intervene and make a decision to continue treatment or let him go. As if the disbelief, long months at the ICU and surgeries weren't enough, given the circumstances, Dylan's prognosis isn't well. He knows that something is going on, but his suspicions are confirmed when he sees Hardin walking up to them arguing. The parameters of this fictional crisis are decidedly vague, as most of the population has simply vanished.

Molly tells Hardin to meet them at a bar at 9, asks if he said Tessa yet, and then says maybe she will tell Tessa. Sigurd says that Basim lives but “in darkness,” where he waits for Layla to arrive more than a thousand years later. While it initially seemed like Eivor was just dreaming of Asgard and Jotunheim after drinking Valka’s potions, the truth is a little more convoluted. As the story begins, the parents are sitting separately with their legal teams in court awaiting the judge's decision.

She explains that her mother has her whole life planned out for and that she probably has already planned her wedding to Noah. Each only wants what is best for their son--and, at first, each feels they are doing the right thing. Basim’s first request is to meet Desmond’s dad William, the head of the Assassins, and who knows what his true purpose is.
