After the middling Prometheus and the messy Alien Covenant, I don't think he would have had the patience to let this film and its ideas breathe in a satisfying way. Blade Runner 2049is an excellent film with stunning visuals that smartly expands upon the world and themes of the original while charting its own course with compelling new characters. Be prepared to get a dark and wonderful welcome back into the rich and atmospheric futurescape of Blade Runner.
