About this deal

Thomas and Moon formed a band, Life After Death, in the mid-1980s, which enjoyed a torrid, brief career; flirting with major labels, releasing a four-song EP on vinyl, and even making a music video. Using the 'Booby Moon' story was such an easy and beautiful experience that it needs to be shared with parents around the world.

Sure, they gave toddlers a heads-up that the milk would soon be gone, but they didn’t imbue the process with the joy, ritual or excitement that she wanted. It explains that the moon sends down magical booby milk for babies to drink, and that the time will soon come to send that magic back to the moon, so that new babies can have milk, too. I think this book could be really great for moms who want to end breastfeeding at a specific point in time. This is a beautifully illustrated book about weaning which helps your little ones prepare to move off of breast milk and onto food. Studies show the practice of ritual during times of loss alleviates grief, makes us feel closer to our families and helps us to say goodbye. It helped us through something I was very apprehensive about, and made the experience something positive for my son.

Maybe we’ll have a party and release a magical balloon; maybe we’ll just talk about how he doesn’t need milk anymore, “Like the toddler in Booby Moon! His first full length solo recording Private Message, is now available on the Selfish Recordings label. I'll admit, while I was excited to give reading the book a go, I had a healthy amount of skepticism about how much it would help. Book features an illustration of a mother cuddling her toddler to sleep instead of nursing them at night (bed-sharing).The back section of Booby Moon contains kind, insightful guidance for using the book to facilitate weaning. When I first read Booby Moon, I loved the tone and the idea but wondered if the mythological aspect would be right for me when it came time to wean my almost two-year-old. Booby Moon, inspired by both Indigenous storytelling and Western mythology like the Tooth Fairy, uses a simple rhyming format to prepare toddlers – and parents – for this monumental milestone. As a teen, Bobby enjoyed writing lyrics, and found a number of bands employing his words for their compositions.

In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby-milk-magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. However, my son noticed the book on my desk and asked me to read it to him, and he’s since requested it many more times. Book also includes a gentle-parenting user guide that how to wean using Booby Moon, night weaning prior, breaking the fed-to-sleep habit and various options for a meaningful goodbye ritual. She was dismayed to find, though, that none of the popular weaning storybooks struck the right tone.I thought some of the book might have had an effect on him, but I did not expect such an immediate and magical change. I implemented a number of the suggestions in the back of the book to make the process more magical for him and easier for us. The concept was created in 2020 by a breastfeeding mother who was ready to wean but could not find a children's book on the market that offered her toddler an upside to their impending loss.
