Now, I’m a sucker for the classic scuba diver square diving mask, not so much the oval, that’s a step too far for me, but I do like the modern Scubapro Gorilla frameless mask. It comes in black or clear skirts, and with swivelling buckles, easy adjustments can be made even when wearing gloves. Frameless masks are generally more expensive than framed versions, and the SF1 is a little costlier than some of Cressi’s other masks.

I had a very short timeline to get my mask sent to him and for the lenses to be added and sent back before I left for Sipadan. The SF1 is low-volume, meaning it sits closer to your face and the air space is less than on a bigger mask. The Cressi F1 features a mono-lens; which I prefer to a double lens as it provides a more uninterrupted view.

One of our divers has been using this mask every day for the last few months and the lens still looks as good as new, despite it being lugged around in their kit bag to around 50 dives.
