Follow the instructions on the packaging or, if your doctor has prescribed it, take the dose they tell you to. The raft floats on the stomach contents effectively impeding gastro-oesophageal reflux, for up to 4 hours, and protecting the oesophagus from acid, pepsin and bile. Gaviscon Liquid Sachets are available in packs of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 or 36 sachets. Compared to Gaviscon Original, Gaviscon Advance’s extra strength formulation has twice the concentration of sodium alginate - forming a strong and resilient 'raft' in the process. On ingestion, the medicinal product reacts rapidly with gastric acid to form a raft of alginic acid gel having a near neutral pH and studies have shown that the raft interacts with and caps the acid pocket in the stomach, reducing oesophageal acid exposure.The antacid – the antacid in Gaviscon Dual Action neutralises excess stomach acid to relieve the pain and discomfort of indigestion. The ‘raft’ then acts as a physical barrier that helps keep your stomach contents where they belong – in your stomach – and not in your food pipe where they can cause discomfort and burning pain. This effect is increased by the addition of sodium bicarbonate which also has a neutralising action.

Our Double Action Mint Sachets not only provide fast relief but also provide up to 4 hours of comfort. Active Ingredients: Each sachet (10ml) of oral suspension contains 500mg sodium alginate, 213mg sodium bicarbonate and 325mg calcium carbonate. No effects of the active substances have been shown in breastfed newborns/infants of treated mothers.Hypersensitivity to sodium alginate and magnesium alginate or any of the excipients listed in section 6.

Adults including the elderly and children 12 years and over: one to two 5 ml spoonfuls after meals and at bedtime, or as directed. Your child’s doctor, pharmacist or health visitor will be able to give you more information about Gaviscon and other medicines used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux. This medicine is used for the treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation, heartburn and indigestion (related to reflux), for example, following meals, or during pregnancy, or in patients with symptoms related to reflux oesophagitis. For breast fed infants give Gaviscon Infant part way through each feed or meal using a spoon or feeding bottle.
